IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE A520 ADAPTER.
« on: December 12, 2004, 03:57:18 AM »
I own a standard  amiga 500 and I am using an A520 adapter to connect to my TV for picture. Are there CABLES availible for connections from my Amiga RGB-VIDEO out to a modern monitor? HELP!

If you have an Amiga 500 Plus, then you have the ECS and should be able to connect it using a simple VGA adapter. However games and demos won't work on the VGA monitor. (Haven't tried this myself on the A500 Plus).

If you don't have the Amiga 500 Plus you will have the OCS chipset and won't be able to connect it to an VGA monitor at all, if not buying a Scan Doubler (expensive). But then also games and demos will work on the VGA monitor.

Otherwise you should look for a RGB cable to use instead of the A520, it will give a bit better picture on the TV set than the A520.

EGA no, VGA you could look for an old NEC MultiSync 3D. Mind the 3D though, they have more in the 3 series and you need specifically the D one.
They are however more rare then a C= 1950/1960/1438 or 1538.

There are some boxes to connect a game console or tv to a Monitor or buy a LCD screen with tv tuner (expensive).

What type of connection are you looking for?  I have a box that does S-Video (Chroma/Luma) and S-Video.  It's output is leagues above the RF from the A520.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

So you decided to use the TV, then you should go for the RGB-SCART cable as that will be cheap, easy and will bring you the best picture you may get on the TV.

Going for a TV, most Genlocks give you a better quality signal then the A520. I've used a GVP G-Lock as an alternative to the 520 :)
