I may have a C128D lined up, but I am actively looking to buy ANY rare/interesting/neat C= 8bit stuff.

MANUALS at this point are a focal point. Vic20 Programmers Reference Guide would be a good start. Anyone?

I bought my first 128 to play "Richard Petty's Talladega" (a truly awful game!). I bought my first Amiga to play "Indy 500" (a truly spectacular game!). I bought my first IBM compatible to play "Nascar Racing" (also, a truly spectacular game!).

Ah, a brother of mine, indeed.  :-)  I didn't get my C64 for a racing game, but I fell in love with them the day I first played Accolade's "Test Drive."  :-)  And then when "Grand Prix Circuit" came out, I was in heaven!

Indy 500 was a real breakthrough game.  The start for Papyrus, the company that produced the games which all modern racing sims are judged against.  And I'll admit that the Papyrus NASCAR Racing series was one of the reasons I built my first PC.  I'm seriously bummed that EA bought up the rights and forced Sierra/Vivendi to kill off Papyrus.  I've heard a bunch of the Papyrus staff went to EA, though.  I'm interested to see what EA's NASCAR SimRacing '05 will look like.  Supposed to be out in early Feb (fingers crossed).

My avatar is to honor my two favorite fallen companies, though.  It's a car I created for the Papyrus NASCAR Racing 2003's Aerowar'88 mod.  The Commodore sponsored #64.  ;-)

Ok, that was a fun thread hijack...  Now back on to the REAL topic.... 8-bitters!

I've always had a special soft spot in my heart for the C64 stuff, as well.  I want a hyper souped-up 8 bitter, but don't want to spend the money for a CMD SuperCPU based system...  You think the C-One is what I'm looking for?  It seems super cool...  Does anyone have one of the early developer systems, yet?  I see it as starting to become tantalizingly available.  I was hoping to pick one up from Redrumloa, but alas, another fallen company.  :-(

Vic-20 progammers guide, I think I had that one.
As far as  a 128-d I was given one a while back, then I gave it to my Preacher. Maybe he'd sell it to you, may take me a while to locate him, he moved up in Kentucky somewhere, I think Kentucky has internet.

Otherwise I had 8 commodore 64's. but my Grandad cleaned out the basement, there in a landfill somewhere now. I'm still upset about that one. All i have left is the drives and games and stuff, If anyones intrested, they'll go to another commy user cheap. The're in storage about 150 miles form here, so it'll be after christmas before I can get to it all.

\\"I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn\\\'t it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general ...

@Frostwolf

May be interested in the drives. Also interested in any manuals you may have, or anything unusual. You in the USA?

A C128 was my first computer, I still have it along with a C64, a couple of nice '41's (old style), loads of old software and other things. Even though it just sits, I'd never part with my 128...it's just too much a part of my youth. Never had as much fun on any platform since. :-)

Good luck on your search red, the only thing I'd almost consider buying these days would be a 1571. In fact, I got a little sentimental and actually bid on a cheap NIB one earlier this year (most of them are shagged by now), but TjLazer sniped it out from under me. :P That, and I think my 128's power supply is tanked anyway.

The good old days :)

I started with a Commodore 64 back in the day, what an awesome computer.. I'm a Commodore collector, there's a C64c hanging here used for retro gaming! (no emulators!), it hs a 1571 drive, everything in original box, etc.. nice. Anyway, I'm looking for a working -in excellent-condition Commodore 1581 disk drive.. if anyone has one to sell/giveaway please PM me ;-)

Cheers!

If Kentucky isn't in the USA, then he isn't from the USA.  :-D

The 128D machine was the very first computer I set eyes on, and basically what brought my interest in computers.  Nothing ever can defeat the C64, and im 18yrs old and I do still say that.  :-D  :-)

Mine!  :-D

I've got a C-128D and a C-64C, both in mickey mouse condition, and working 100%, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to part with them. Plus I've got roughly a 1000 or so disks chocker-block with C-64/128 software. To be honest though, I can't remember the last time I fired either of them up, cool, now I have something to do Sunday :-D

BTW, among other things, I have an SX64 -- the last time I fired it up, the display was "scrambled" -- it would still load programs, etc.

Another C64 junkie here.
As for your SX64, sounds like one of your memory chips has rolled over. I've repaired dozens like it in my way back 8bit days. Unfortunatly the memory chips are soldered in. If socketed chip resets don't do it for you, then break out the solder iron and start putting the mem chips is sockets to test and replace. If you need more help just ask. I still have parts and schematics.

I'm as bad as the rest of you, I have 64's and 128 of every version, including an SX and 128D. 2 years ago I even began working on a C coded project to make into a novelty cartridge release. I finished my first project "Lottery64" that will let your 64/128/vice/frodo 'hopefully' pick winning numbers in any conceivable lottery game out there. (I hoped it would work for me and I could retire to make more carts :) Then I was going to do a small cart game. The lotto works great, but I never got past plannning stages of the game. If anyone cares, maybe I'll try to post some screen shots of the lotto.

@-D-

Saw that C128D, gonna keep an eye on it. However I did buy a C128D last night.

Next up, looking for a Turbo232 interface. I'm going to make a homebrewed adapter, but ultimately I want one of these.

You weren't kidding about paying a good price, were you? Plus, that one doesn't have a keyboard & looks pretty banged up!

>Next up, looking for a Turbo232 interface.

Got one of those too (not to rub it in) -- which reminds me, I need to make that copy of the ComputerEyes disk! Doh!

----
Edit - I'm mixing that up with a Swiftlink (which was also an RS232 interface) -- don't have a Turbo232 -- I think that was a CMD product. Drat!

Heh, heh -- got TWO of those! (Actually only one has the Ram card & it only has 4 megs,as I recall)
