9 gig HD w/os 3.9
« on: December 07, 2004, 08:44:26 PM »
My friend sent me a 9 gig IBM HD, model DNES-309170 for my A4KT....the same beast I've been wrestling with for months. The Beast with the strange '060 card, which isn't there now...I'm using the Cyberstorm. Okay, that said, I installed the HD on the scsi cable fine, no bent pins like I usually do first. I had os 3.1 installed after formatting etc and then.... I noticed that HDTools claims the HD is a 2 gig HD more or less. I checked it a few times, even re-formatted and reinstalled the OS. Then I installed os 3.9. Still claims it's 2 gigs, two partitions about equal...Workbench and Work. What should I do to reveal it's true size and take advantage of it? I have no problem with 2 gig partitions, but I'd like all of the hard drive in as many partitions as it takes to equal 9 gigs. Is it remotely possible that even though it claims 2 gigs, it will actually use more? I find that hard to believe, but what the heck. I'm naive. help....

Have you installed BoingBag1 and 2? I balive OS3.9 will only recognize up to 8Gb disks correctly without BB's installed.

HD's over the 4GB limit are supported with OS3.5 and up.
In your case i would check if you have the NSDPatch.cfg file in the SYS:Devs drawer.

Normally it's copied to there when you install OS3.5 or OS3.9. If you cannot fix it that way, try to install IDEfix97 from aminet. It needs a key, but at least you can see if your HDD will be recognized as a 9GB one.

Now i remembered something too, maybe the cylinders and heads aren't set to the right values.

Compare them to what says on the HDD and what it says in HDToolbox. If they're different, you still can adjust them in HDToolbox, just select your HDD from HDToolbox' menu and click on Install. There you will see the parameters and other values you can correct if it's needed.

I cannot think of any other stuff atm what could help...
