I decided to get myself the Retro games book, which is all the retro sections from Games (TM) over the past year. It is a very good retro book; it covers 8bit, 16bit and 32bit (and beyond. Plus my favourite bit, the Arcade and NeoGeo section. It costs £10 and is roughly just over 250 pages. Its a very good read and covers each system pretty well and has recommended games section, etc. What's more, it covers Amiga. :-) Just wondering whether anyone else on these boards got it.
