AudioCD player
« on: December 05, 2004, 03:44:44 PM »
Hello!

I am searching for an Audio CD player (for Amiga) which supports CD-Text, which is an extension to the usual CD Audio specification to store on the CD names of the tracks and authors. I can't find one!! :-(
The strange thing is that Burn IT support CD-Text, so it is possible to create on the Amiga CD with this feature, but there is no program which uses it!! :-(

Also, I noticed that almost all Audio CD players for Amiga are old and no more supported. No one knows a recent piece of software??

regards! :-)

It's not quite what you're after, but FreeDB has recently been released.
You can play CDs with it, but it's main feature is the DiscID number lookup on the FreeDB server.  In other words, you can put in any commerical CDDA disc, and it'll label all the tracks for you bu looking up the internet DiscID database.

Really nice program, works well.
Download from http://web.tiscali.it/amiga/freedb/

I think there are a number of players still supported.
Songplayer is, which can read raw CDDA data and play through Paula or an AHI device.  There's no provision to label CDDA tracks though.

MUICDplayer is quite nice too, not sure if it's still supported, but I think you need to enter track names manually??

In my experience CD-Text is not very widely used. I once planned to support CD-Text in my CD Player but dropped idea because I couldn't find CDs with CD-Text.

I might be wrong but that seems to be case...

@all: thanks for the info, although you didn't provide me what I was looking for! Do you know a Open Source Amiga CD player sw?

@itix: you are right that CD-Text is seldom used on commercial CDs, I only own fews (I recognise them when I play them on my father's HiFi, whose player has a display.
However, I would like to have CD-Text mainly because I like to  put CD-Text on the audio CD that I burn (with BurnIT, or Nero). So, please consider supporting it!! :-)
By the way, how is your player called?
