Amigas on eBay, the browser issues.
« on: December 04, 2004, 01:21:32 PM »
What's the best browers mowadays to place bids on eBay? I have a customer who says Ibrowse crashes if he tries to bid.

Also:
I'm having problems with AWeb also. For some reason it stopped finding it's plugins.

Any ideas?
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

I use Ibrowse v2.3 with Miami v3.2/SSLv2.11 and eBay works fine on a 68060 with lots of memory, albeit slowly.  I too have experienced crashes on a 68030 machine with only 16Mb of fast ram.  My guess is the SSL or javascript or something gets bogged down on the 030 while on eBay and I don't have enough memory or conflicts, so it crashes.  Since eBay went all SSL I no longer use the 030 machine.  I noticed the same thing happens after a couple of posts on amiga.org (i.e. fantastic crash).  My guess is it's probably memory-related.  Maybe 32 mb is a realistic minimum.

ibrowse works fine, although you need to disable javascript or it will be horribly slow. Dont listen to the muppets who say ebay doesnt work without javascript, it works fine.

@Aledt

By Jove, you're right.  If I disable javascript in Ibrowse2.3 it works rather well on eBay, even with just a 40MHz 68030.  Trouble is, I have only 16MB of fastram, so I have to keep flushing cached images from memory to avoid a crash due to insufficient memory. MiamiSSLv2.11 seems to work fairly nippy as well.

Since eBay went SSL I've been unable to access my account. So...I installed AmiSSL with no luck in success. I use Aweb 3.? along with AmiTCP 4.3 within AmigaOS3.5 . Can someone suggest how I can get AmiSSL to function for ebay? Like, what encryption scheme should I be trying to implement or decipher?
