CyberstormPPC with SCSI to IDE adapter ATA support which...
« on: November 27, 2004, 11:54:53 AM »
Hey! I'll soon have a CybverstormPPC 060@66, PPC@233  :-o  :-D
I done my homework and checked some of the Acard Scsi to IDE adapters but I'm still a bit undecided as to wich one to go for.
I suppose an UW one (40MB/s) will be enouph because the controler on the CPPC doesn't support more, but even so I'd like to be sure. Maybe one supporting 80MB/s will be a bit faster even if using this controler :-?

Also, noticed that some of the controlers don't have ATA support in their feature list, should that be a concern or it's just publicity stuff?

Last but not least, is anyone burning DVD's (or CD's) with a combination like this? Do the programs need any special support for these adapter cards that makes them not working?

Come on, I'll finally have the edge of the Classic Amiga machines :pint: :pint:  :-D

I am not sure,

but as much as I know there IS a difference with this "ATA" labeling.

They need to support the whole ATA specification / command set to support optical drives like CD and DVD I think I remeber.

Yamaha once offered (or still offers?) such converters / adapters to plug their news ATA devices into an SCSI chain.

Hope that helps,

I'm using an Acard SCSIDE AEC-7720UW with my CSMK3 SCSI and a 40GB IBM Deathstar HD.  It works great.  IIRC, I get ~12MB/s and this is an old HD.  (I'm soon to swap in a faster 8M cache HD and it should perk up a bit).

Don't bother with the LVD models as they'll just run in SE mode anyway (if at all).

Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hi,

until my CSPPC died, I used the AEC-7720UW with a 40GB IBM (IC35LC040).
But SysSpeed showed me a transfer rate of ~35MB/s using the latest
firmware upgrade for the AEC-7720UW in synchron mode and 16Bit.
