Question of the day...
«

I am in the middle of building a custom pc.
I am stuck on the ram because I can't decipher a certain part of the ram code.
Here's the listing:
CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 256MB 64MX64 PC-2700C2PT
I've got everything figured out except the part about 64Mx64
What in the crap does it mean?
I'm thinking 4 banks of 64megs at 64 bits wide.
Is this a correct analogy?
to confuse things even more, it goes on to say this in furhter listing.
Organization: 32M x 64
What the hay?

If I remember correctly you are right in that 64Mx64 is 64megs @ 64bits but that equals 512megabytes.
64bits / 8 = 8bytes
8bytes x 64meg = 512MB
The part that says 32Mx64 is equal to 256MB
This is assuming I can remember 5 year old knowledge correctly! :-D

As a general rule, you can multiply 8X the first number and determine the capacity of the chip. Thus, 8X64=512MB or 8X32=256MB
This goes the same as the old 72pin simms which you could multiply 4X the first number and determine the size.
