Back to my Roots!
« on: November 15, 2004, 09:34:22 AM »
Hi All,

Let me introduce myself, my name is Folkert (yep it's dutch).
I have been a die hard fan of Amiga's from day one. Having owned al amiga's except for the Towers.
It all began a long time ago, the 256K A1000. Bought it (with color monitor) for a whopping 7500 guilders. (that would translate to roughly 3500 to 4000 US$.

Later on I started my communication era, first buying a modem, logging on to several BBS's (that was the way to go).

Later on I started my own, The TWiLiGHT Zone. First one line, later on two. The system ran Xenolink v 1.9 something. Man! That really got me in touch with fellow amigans! That was good!

The system ran on an expanded A2000, dual SCSI controllers, multi IO card and an A2630 turbocard and a flickerfixer (A2320, probably the best non aga one ever made).
It had another A2000 sitting next to it which was basically nothing more then an external SCSI casing!

For personal use I had an A4000/040.

Some 6 years ago I was working at a PC manufacturer and needed one of those stupid things to use at home. Due to ack of space I sold all my Amiga stuff.... Boy did i regret that!

About a month ago I got myself a brand spanking new A1200, have expanded it with a 1.4GB laptop drive, Blizzard1230MK4 with SCSI (166MB FAST).
Looking to still upgrade: USB ports (subway) and an internal Flicker Fixer/Scandoubler. My girl is getting tired of me hyjacking the TV set hours on end! :)

Anyway, great to be here, somehow I feel home.

Greetings from Amsterdam!

As for scandoubler/ff , try to get a DCE Flickermagic, I got one recently and there is NO picture quality loss, plus the flicker went home to do some homework

Welcome Tahoe

Just a quick note before you buy that internal scandoubler: check the threads here first because some users have reported problems with them. If I remember correctly, the complaint with one of the units was that it was 16 bit instead of 24 bit.

Ah, I found the relevant thread:

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11365

I was also looking for a scandoubler/flicker fixer and I was at a loss over what to do, but luckily I have an A4000T and I have found someone selling a Picasso IV, so my problems will soon be gone. Hope it works out for you.

I know, there aren't many regrets in my life, but that is one of them!!  :-)

I did about a year ago buy a bunch of Amiga's (2 2000's and a 4000 Tower conversion) with a bunch of addon's, most noticably PAR boards and Sunrize audio cards. Sold that lot at a whopping profit, mainly because they weren't very stable and looked used.

Now I have this wonderfull shiny 1200 in front of me, which is just perfect to fit in a drawer under the TV. Till I get that Flicker Fixer that is.

Welcome aboard Tahoe,
You'll find many good folks here, most all willing to help out.  By the way, I paid about the same for my A1000 way back.  Still got it though, and it still works!  Best regards...Art

Hey Tahoe.

Enjoy your stay.

There are many great Amigans left.

Though im only 18yrs old, Amiga is by far the best OS I have ever used. Will hopefully soon get my Amiga 1200 back and clean it and get it back online.  :-)
