MicroA1 TV Project
« on: November 12, 2004, 08:08:29 PM »
Objective: To build a consumer TV based on the Eyetech MicroAmigaONE and Computer Cities PC/TV case and running AmigaOS 4.0.

Some specifications :
* 15" TFT screen, 1024x768 maximum resolution
* Built-in speakers
* Philips TV Tuner with remote control
* 250W PSU
* 2 x USB (2.0 compatible) ports on the front side of the case
* 256MB RAM(+/-)
* 1 x 32bit 33MHz slot
* Integrated VIA 686B ATA100 controller. 40 & 44 way headers
* 3COM 10/100 controller
* CM!8738 6-channel 5.1 surround sound with CDROM, front audio on headers
* 2 x rear panel sockets; 2 on headers
* Ati Radeon 7000 32MB with SVGA, SVHS and composite video outputs on back panel
* PS/2 mouse & k/b, game, parallel ports on back panel; 1 x serial on header
* Uboot 1.1.1 or higher available either with Linux and OS4, or Linux only (for industrial customers) support.
* AmigaOS 4.0
* Amount needed for 1st prototype $1,500
* Suggested end user price: $2,100 - $3,000

Once we assemble the first MircoA1 TV prototype, we will go around to different investment clubs to rise founds to mass-produce and market the MicroA1 TV to companies like CompUSA, Wall-Mart, BestBuy, and OfficeMax. We will also be selling MicroA1 TVs through Amiga local dealers, and auction sites like eBay. To do this we will need about $1.5 million US.

Hi
I like the project, and think its really cool for you as a cool computer. However, to try to mass produce or sell this configuration is sheer suicide, and a bit delusional especially at that price range. You are of course aware that a G5 Imac is only $1300??  ANd please dont say "Yeah but it doesnt run OS4" well OS4 isnt really in a state for even high end home computing use, especially for a Multimedia station.

There are NO os4 drivers for video capture, firewire,video editing,  or anything that is useful to this concept.

Realisticly, how many $2500-3000 A1's do you think you can sell?
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Yes, but then I would have to produce them in units of 200,000 vs. units of 2,000

I'll admit I didn't look long for any prices for Media Center PC's, but IIRC to get the most out of it, people need a reasonable specced PC and I think I saw them priced at about $1000. (could be wrong, but with all the extra Eyecandy ontop of WinXP...)

Like I said, I didn't look hard, so...

But you can't compare that monster Sony system (3.2Ghz, 1Gig DDR, 200gigHD, DVD-RW) with an A1... :-o
