Aimga 4000 Good price?

Hi all,
Iam new to the Amiga, at least I hope to be new. I recently won a bid for an Amiga 4000 on ebay.  I paid about this time last week so I hope it arrives shortly.  I just wanted to know if $280 + $35 shipping was a good price to pay for a basic Amiga 4000.  Also does any one know how long these shipments normally take to deliver. I am also new to ebay. I hope to get help learning how to use it from some of the more experienced users on this forum.

Hi! That price is about right for today's market, for a good condition machine. Shipping will be entirely based on the seller, method of shipping and distance.

What are the specs? 040? RAM? HD?
Amigas in the US tend to be far more expensive than in Europe. That's a bit steep for a bare system, but relatively normal for a US-based transaction, I think,

Thank you.  I actually have had an Amiga 500 for some time now but I fear it has sat on a shelf for the lack of a hard drive.  Could you tell me how useful the Amiga 4000 would be, you know, software support and such? Are there decent PD productivity applications available?

Haha, are you kidding?  it would definitely be usefull...and there is tons of free super useful PD.

Just go to Aminet on the web! also Back2TheRoots.org for tons of free games.

DO NOT delete the Toaster software.just get a toaster card. They go for pretty cheap.  Also it has LightWave installed with the Toaster software, which you maay be able to use.

I thought A4k's went pretty cheaply in the US? I paid EUR50,- for mine (030/full mem banks/500ish HD/MultiFace III/Kick 3.0)a few weeks back. I think the usual price for such a basic 4k is about EUR100 though.

So, yes, the price you paid sounds a bit steep to me.

NO the 4000 in the US sells for rediculosly high prices!  I paid over $400 for my 4000/030 a few years back, and they still usually sell for over $300 easy!!!  I actually just bought a 3000T on eBay and paid $425 for it, but it is rarer than the 4000.

That's a fine price for a decent A4000.  Sounds like a reasonable deal to me.

I think $280 was a reasonable price for the Amiga 4000 you are getting. The 3.1 roms are a bonus if you wish to upgrade to OS 3.9 in the future.

Hopefully one day I can buy the Amiga 4000 I always wanted.  :-D

Ehhhh, he's got OS 3.9 now.  I agree that a toaster card would be useful.  4000s use IDE hard drives so a bigger one would be cheap to install.  20 gig HDs are cheap on ebay.
