WHDLoad or AmigaOS Rom Update?
« on: October 08, 2004, 04:30:33 PM »
What is the deal?  WHDLoad seems to be very finicky.  When it works it works great, but on some systems it acts up.  Since I own a lot of Amigas I have used this on a lot of different platforms.  My latest is the 3000T.  I got finally running and was having some problem with about half the WHDLoad games I tried.  I narrowed it down to AmigaOS ROM Update.  If I left it out all the games ran fine. Anyone have any ideas?

On a side note: I am going to try a new fresh install of AmigaOS 3.9 to see if that helps...  On another system (A1200 040) the ROM update slows down the HD so I have it removed there too.

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

Have you got an A1200 3.1 rom image in with the older ones?  I had problems with trying to use my A3000 image, which is a different revision.

Havn't had any problems with WHDLoad under OS3.9 since I sorted that out ...

WHDLoad worked fine on my 1200T w/ 3.9.2, and works fine on my 4000T w/ 3.9.2 (same harddrive, new home). I do find, though, that I need to set the NOCACHE and NOAUTOVEC tooltypes on almost everything.

What sort of problems are you experiencing?

WHDLoad works great, however depending on your Amiga and expansions installed you will need to change tooltypes.
For example if the tooltypes for game X were set to:

gamex.slave
PRELOAD
NOCACHE

...and it worked on your A1200 unit, that doesn't mean that it will work on your A3000T as well and you may have to change it to:

gamex.slave
PRELOAD
NOVBRMOVE
NOCACHE
NOAUTOVEC

...or remove all the NO tooltype lines altogether to make it work. You have to mix and match working tooltype lines sometimes to make a certain game work.
