Problem installing NewIcons 4.6
« on: October 03, 2004, 06:50:27 AM »
I have an Amiga 2000
Blizzard 2060 with 64 megs
CyberVision 64/3D with Picasso96 drivers
Kickstart 3.1 and Workbench 3.1

I am trying to install the latest version of NewIcons. When I double click on the installer I get:

unable to open your tool 'installer'

Other items like the Picasso96 installer use the same tool. I copied Installer 43_3 into C: and re-ran the NewIcons installer. I received another error telling me I need to install something else... the name escapes me. Is there something I am missing?  :-?

Hi,
perhaps track down that missing file on aminet...

Is it a library, that goes into Libs:,or something like  Lha, that`s also goes into the C: drawer?

And once it`s done, it`s done...

You are doing nothing wrong; it  just takes time to set up a good system...

I don't remember exactly. It was either ClassAct or GTLayout. Run the installer again to find out which one you need:

http://de.aminet.net/aminetbin/find?classact2
http://de.aminet.net/aminetbin/find?gtlayout.lha

Reading the docs and fulfilling the prerequisites before starting the installation will speed up things a lot.

Thomas

It is a modular GUI building system, similar to MUI, GTLayout, Triton and others. It is based on BOOPSI if this means anything to you. ClassAct has been taken as the standard GUI system in OS3.5/3.9, however, they renamed it to ReAction.

Where does the default Installer application reside on the file system? I would like to backup the old one as Installer.orig and copy the new one in its place.

You don't need the old one. Installer V43 is the official successor of V40. Every script which doesn't work on V43 doesn't work on V40 either. And you have a "backup" of it on the Install disk.

Copy it to both Sys:Utilities and Sys:C, then you are safe. However, the correct place is Utilities.
