Strange Flashing Infront Of My Eyes!!

What on earth. Been on Ebay again and had to go buy another Amiga. Been 10 years since I had one and for some strange reason I have forgotten how to work it. XP on my mind i'm afraid.
Bought it, got it, plugged it and power light flashing but nothing else happens. Haven't got a way of seeing the picture because there was no modulator.
What does the flashing light mean and does anyone know if its possible to connect an SVGA, VGA monitor or a TV without modulator.
Perleeease gimme some advice.

Blinking power LED? What it means depends on the blink pattern. Unfortunately I can't find a reference right now but there'll be a long blink then a series of short ones (I seem to recall). You count the blinks and that means something!!!
Try a web search. I've found that info before, but it isn't coming to me right now.

As to the monitor question, NO!
If you TV accepts composite in, then you should be OK unless you have a PAL Amiga on an NTSC TV or vice versa.

The power light flashes when the machine guru's (crashes).  But it's difficult to say why without seeing what is showing on screen (the colors it shows on screen should help to diagnose).  

You can't connect a VGA monitor. You need a modulator to connect it to your TV via RF, or a cable to connect it to your TV's scart or composite input.  Or you can get a RGB monitor like a C= 1084S or a philips cm8833.
