Fsck Ivan!

[Failure]

Ivan (what was left of it) rolled on through my area last night, knocking out power for about three hours from 10:00 to 1:00am.  I was working on the 3000UX at the time (stupid!) and compilation was ongoing when everything cut off.  I turned off the switch before going to sleep, and this morning turned it on....and fsck failed, manual intervention required :-(

I guess when I get back I will do the ol "fsck -y and cross fingers" thing.  Failing that -- reinstall!!

Unfortunately the gcc 2.7.2.3, apache, and a couple others have not been moved off the machine yet.  That is a couple days of compiling lost if I can't recover it.

Bummer :-(

We made it through Ivan here as well.  Went a couple of days without power, and had to leave home for a while too.

One of the biggest storms to hit inland SE USA this decade is on its way, what do you do? Do you:

a) Drive away and sweat it out somewhere safely out of reach?

b) Hide in a shelter and panic?

c) Pray to the Almighty?

d) Build Unix?

It's AALLIIIIIVEEE!  It just needed a good fscking.

What me, learn a lesson?  Heck no!  It just shows how hardcore I am!!

But I did hook it to the rackmount UPS I have in there.  Don't know why I didn't do that before.  I don't reckon power outages will be an issue now.

We managed to pull through okay, just lost power for a day and a half or so.  (Didn't use the computer during the hurricane, :lol:).

Essentially the worst we got was all three local TV stations pre-empting everything all day long to tell us;

1) It's raining outside
2) You should stay inside
3) You should keep watching our reporting of the rain
4) If you don't, you'll probably die.

You just gotta love local news channels.  Glad to hear Targhan's OK.
