Johnny Ramone, guitarist in punk band The Ramones, has died at the age of 55 following a long fight against cancer.

He passed away at his Los Angeles home on Wednesday afternoon, surrounded by his friends and family, his publicist confirmed.

Ramone, whose original name was John Cummings, had been battling prostate cancer for five years.

He will be cremated at a private service on Thursday, and a public tribute is being organised.

I wasn't much of a fan of The Ramones, but I know the impact they had on the scene.

Sad day indeed :-(

I hope Tommy is around for a while longer.

anyway, i am a fan - i love that basic, raw emotion. no worship of commercialism there!

the garbage that businessmen spew out for kids to buy now has NO emotional impact whatsoever.

I heard it on the radio about 3 hours ago and was surprised no one'd posted it yet.
