Upgrading a G-Force 040/33 for A2000
« on: September 12, 2004, 10:23:10 PM »
Hello,

I use in my A2000 a GVP G-Force 040/33.

I've seen in the BBOAH that the G-Force exists in 040/25, 040/33 and 040/40 versions. The Amiga Hardware Database only mentions the 040/33 version.

Do you think it is possible to upgrade my board by replacing the 040/33 by a 040/40 and by replacing the 16.5MHz oscillator by a 20.0MHz ? Is there any further modification to do ?

Currently, there is a heatsink and a fan mounted on the 040 so I assume I would have to keep them on a 040/40...

Thank you for your advice,
Alma96

I think many of the '040s clocked at 40 from the start were overclocked 33s anyway.  Maybe a bigger heatsink and fan would be needed, but in general '040 based boards overclock ok, provided any on-board memory is up to the increased speed.

I think it should work.  One thing to note is that unless GVP did something wierd you'll need a 80MHz crystal to get 40MHz out of the 040.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(
