AmiMasterGear won't run!
« on: September 10, 2004, 08:31:56 PM »
Hi,
I installed the freeware AmiMasterGear version .82 and it will not run on my A4000 060 OS3.9.  On my A1200 040 OS3.9 it runs fine.  Anyone have problems with it?

When I launch the game nothing happens, then  the system becomes really slow and unstable, a reboot is required.
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

That sounds a very familiar problem.

AmiMasterGear is the best emulator on Amiga in my opinion and it was
lately made freeware. I think maybe someone continued with the source
because the latest freeware one doesn't utilise the
S:amimastergear.key

If it's going into some sort of loop use Executive (Top) or SnoopDos
to identify what exactly AmiMasterGear wants and what sort of CPU
usage it is using.

Check any libraries it uses are up to date and that the original LHA
wasn't corrupted.

Also, try putting the keyfile into S: and then removing it. If the
latest one sees a keyfile it might get confused as the executable
auto-detects no keyfile and still gives you the full freeware version.

I got this trouble with the latest freeware Iconian too.

I seem to remember this happening with me once, but it's worked
perfect ever since I altered something.

I only have AmiMasterGear.prefs in S: now so 0.82 must work best
without the keyfile. That simple little key might be the cause of your
loop headache.

I don't think it's an '060 issue (just keep it to normal fps!!!)

:-D :-D

You are right, that did it!!!!!!!!!  I removed the keyfile and she fired right up!  Runs great on my 060/66MHz...

Excellent. Hope you have Sonic 1 & Asterix...

Sonic 1 gets 30fps on an '030...   with an '060 you can choose between 60fps or 300fps.

It moves more like a Laurel & Hardy slapstick if you don't control the CPU though...

;-) ;-) :-D

Try also AmiGameBoy which uses the same style and get Kirby!

:-)

I am curious... why should I avoid Analogic? I need to get my A4000 repaired and was going to do so this weekend by Analogic. If they really are that bad then are there any other repair centres in London?

do a search on here for 'analogic'
many users appear to have had bad experiences with them
not just an isolated misunderstanding, but a catalogue of rip offs, broken hardware etc
I like Amigas

ER!? What the bleeting hell is going on here? Didn't you bleeting see what the other guys were talking about? This thread was talking about bleeting AmiMaster. And all what you two seem to be interested in, is talking about bleeting Analogic. That is bleeting off topic!

Anyhow. Yeah AmiMasterGear is a seriously kick ass emulator. I also recommend AmiMSX, a great MSX emulator and is also another emu in the "Ami" series.

Sorry - I'm new to this board and so I wasn't aware of the need to avoid Analogic. I have read up on all the threads now thanks the the previous  poster advising me to perform a search. I know it was off topic but it helped me out a lot... I read his sig and seeing as I was going to take my A4K to Analogic this weekend to get it repaired I am glad I asked.

Hi Dude! :-)

Listen, i was joking around. Welcome to Amiga.org. You can hear more about Analogic, in the "recommended dealers" section, if not then the "General" section. Personally, i don't deal with Analogic, so i can't put a say on the matter.

The thread had gone cold anyway, by changing the subject you
resurrected it like a shambling zombie thirsty for flesh.

Well done on avoiding Analogic. If they had trouble repairing the
mass-produced A1200 then I dread to think what trouble you'd have had
if you'd taken the A4000 in.

One thing I hadn't mentioned about AmiMasterGear is that it doesn't
appear to be retargettable - so I doubt it'll work on a graphics card.
There are probably ways around this though.

Just out of curiosity, when an Amiga retargets to a GFX card screen,
does it treat AGA screenmodes the same (i.e. just flipping back down
to a 15Khz mode seemlessly?).

I heard there was a special driver called CyberGfxAGA which allows you
to use RTG software on AGA albeit slowly. Does anyone know what this
is and if it's worth installing for standard chipset owners?

:-)
