7Mhz unless you change the clock crystal on the A500MB to 10Mhz.

"This chip will give your machine a boost in power and extra CPU instructions over the standard 68000 part."

Yah, it's true.. you do get a few extra instructions but hardly anything compared to a 020/030 CPU.

Yah, a mighty 5-10% boost in power.. like that's anything compared to a real turbo board.

I personaly wouldn't pay more than just a few $ for a 68010, I'd rather save the $ for a real accelrator that can give me a HD controller, Memory expansion and more.

Also certain instructions (MOVE SR?) are privileged on the 68010, so badly written code for the 68000 will break on your new CPU.

I got this chip from Motorolla back around 1990, and put it in my Amiga as a drop-in replacement.  The benchmarking programs I ran reported something like a 3% boost in 3 or 4 of the tests, and no change in all the others.

And as mentioned in the above post, it increases incompatibility by some factor.

I remember my Hurricaine '020 board also gave a tepid perfomrance gain - and that was a 14Mhz '020!  The reason was, the system lacked any RAM that took advantage of the better CPU.

If I recall, all accelerator boards for the Amiga get thier speed increase using either a combination of faster chip/faster RAM, or faster chip/cache RAM.

So does this chip need to run at 10MHz for the boost, or will running it at 7.14MHz provide the boost?
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

I think that the "boost" most likely cannot be detected with naked eye. :-)

I'm not competent to change the clock to 10Mhz (14 maybe...)

So yes, you get the "Boost" at 7.14.  :)

Mostly I'm surprised that I called up Motorola one day and said "yes, I'd like to evaluate a 68010 please" and they sent me one!!

My MC68010L10 runs at 7MHz too on Amiga B2000CR Rev6.
How to change the clock crystal?

Don't do that - the crystal controls the timings for the entire motherboard.  your best bet is to get a proper accelerator.  However if you want to try, there's hacks out there that allow you to run a CPU at 14MHz (1/2 the speed of the crystal).  Off-hand I think these mess up floppy timings and a few other things.

Here you go, here's a thread on it:  http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=28259

TL;DR.  Just get yourself a proper accelerator.  :hammer:

Thanks for the info, accelerator is expensive :(
