My Website doesn't Update
« on: September 04, 2004, 06:45:52 PM »
OK, I got myself a usable FTP client and uploaded a revised home page. Problem is, my website still shows the old page.

Yes, I checked that it's in the right place and even downloaded the 'new' page and tried it as a local file.

Everything works fine in that mode.

I renamed the IE cache and tried again to no avail.

Any obvious answer to it?

Cheers,

JaX

Your ISP could use a sucky concept called "forced proxy". Such system automagically captures port 80 traffic and redirects it to ISP's proxy, usually a cache system.

My ISP (kymp.net) used to have such thing, but after numerous complaints it was removed. One of the symptoms was getting old pages even after flushing cache and removing any proxy settings from browser.

Put a ? at the end of the url to bypass the ISP cache.

Hmmm...

I never had this problem with my Amiga/AmiTradeCenter.

I simply did my monthly update using a pc, so I don't think it can be an ISP proxy thing can it?

Using '?' after the URL of my home page makes no difference.

Anyone?

JaX

Whats the URL?

Normally the ? (ie www.amiga.org?) sorts it out...

Maybe try flushing your webspace?

@LinchpiN

My home page is here.

It should refer to the September 2004 edition, but it doesn't. If I download the file and run it locally it's fine.

Thanks for looking.

I've had cacheing problems under NTL.  It's not the old chestnut of uploading a .htm file and leaving the old .html one in place is it? (typical problem if you go from another platform to PC!).

Right.

Its a problem with your webhosting.

I just checked it through 3 proxy servers, including www.proxify.com and all got the old page.

Try flushing the webspace.

@LinchpiN

Thanks for your advice, but exactly how do I 'flush' my webspace and what does it achieve?

Cheers,

JaX
