Cybervision 64 video card question.

Where can one find a suitable passthrough cable, which can be used with the input port of the CV64 card and a scan doubler? Is this just a simple VGA extension cable, only very short?

So, should I expect a decrease in image quality if I use a long(ish) VGA extension cable? Is there a recommended length for the cable, or any length should do just fine?

Don't think the cable length plays a major role when talking about the rather low freqs of native AGA-modes.

The quality of the output and if used SD/FF is far more problematic. Also you may find lots of monitors having problem with these signals (unstable picture, very dark picture etc).

Also, the contact resistance on having an extra set of connectors defrades it a little.  On an A3000 scandoubler it's certainly not enough degradation to worry about though ('cause you get to use the CV for most stuff ;-)).

I'll try to find as short as possible cable (3 feet seems the shortest available length).

There are actually 1 feet cables just for this but 3, 5 feet or even longer doesn't seem to make that much difference to me. A cable with those "blocks" around them might give a unsignificant better picture.

(I actually use 2 cables in the 5-10feet region (both with blocks) from my scandoubler and Voodoo3 output trough a switchbox and then to my monitor and I can hardly see the difference from that and to just plugging the monitor right to video output.)

Do you have an online link to a store that's selling those 1' cables, by any chance? I'm just looking for the shortest possible length in order not to trip over cables. :-)

I know this sounds daft, but have a look on ebay for a second hand Voodoo I or II.
 Cos they were 3D only cards, they came with a 6" VGA cable to connect to the 2D card.

That's not a bad idea, although I think that the supplied passthrough cable is not a DB15 "male to male", which is required for the CV64 and a scan-doubler.

Another question just came to my mind.

Is it true that the highest non-interlaced 24-bit mode resolution that this card can do is 800x600? If I wanna go 1024x768 in 24-bit, it would have to be interlaced, right?

The Voodoo I/II came with a female to male (extension) cable.

Can't remember, because most of times I used 16bit screenmodes. With 16bits it gave 1024x768@79hz non interlaced if I remember correctly.

If you feel enough skilled you may try to change the ram of the gfx card by other faster chips to get better refresh and speed.

I've used my CV64 for 5-6 years now and I've had no problem at all with the quality of the scandoubler, the only problem I have is some demos (very few) when the automatic switch doesn't do it's job.

I'm not sure about the max res, I'm using 800x600 but I think it is only possible to run higher resolutions in 8bit.

I've got a Cybervision 64 and use 1152x900@16b non-interlaced for my desktop. It can go up to 800x600@24b non-interlaced. I use CyberGraphX v4.
