I'm running OS 3.0 on A1200 with BlizzardPPC603e/060 + AmiTCP 3.0b (from Aminet) + 3c589.device + PCMCIA 3com EthernetIII, 562D/563D. I did not configure, nor started anything else from the samba package itself.
For me smbfs (from Aminet) works unstable. I use it only if I must and afterwards reboot just to be sure, but it does not crash, during disconnecting (CTRL+C).
It happens to connect from the first try, but this is not a rule, if it doesn't most probable I'll see 'Interrupt 5 -I/O error'. Retrying is successfull after mostly several times.
It very often freezes during listing of the directory.
It misses files in sentences like "rename #?.c arch/".
Yesterday, when I've tried GG 'ls' on mounted directory (by mistype...) and I've seen for the first time in my life the message:
"Error with entries: 6 != 7"
It often freezes during downloading after creating local empty file, before getting data.
When the transfer freezes, even ping stops working.
I had much trouble for two days to copy one .lha archive
from Amiga to PC. Changing the name of the file to 'g', then copying then changing it back solved this case (

).
I know its not so easy to judge what exactly is failing, as several software packages have to cooperate tightly and fault on one can show up on the other (AmiTCP, 3c589.device, smbfs, dos.library).
Mayby it's good idea that everyone, who uses this, types his exact configuration and the remarks how it's working for him - mayby we'll find the thing that shows up in each failing configuration (OS3.0, AmiTCP 3.0b?).
Cheers
