Emulators for Amiga and other platforms
« on: August 31, 2004, 12:04:20 PM »
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but it's as near as I can get...

Can anyone recommend some emulator programs for Commodore 64, Spectrum, Amstrad etc for either Amiga or Windoze?

For the Amiga, emulating a Commodore 64 - Magic64 is probably your best bet.  Unfortunately, Magic64 has been abandoned and also is crippled by shareware restrictions.  Frodo 2.4, however also runs at decent speeds on an 060 (not sure about an 040 or slower) and isn't crippled.  You can download it at Christian Bauer's homepage.

Windows

Zsnes = Excellent SNES emulator

Gens = Superb Sega MD/Genesis emulator (plus you can play 2 player games online)

FreezeSMS = Wonderful Sega MS/GG emulator

Stella = Amazing A2600 emulator

WinUAE = Amiga on drugs emulator

Epsxe = Pain in the ass to set up, but once done it emulates PSX nicely.

I use the above and recommend them all.

Under windows Caprice32 is a very competant CPC emulator, and STeem is a friendly Atari ST/E emulator.

PCx and PC Task are both a laugh for emulating PCs under Amiga (both appeared on late Amiga cover CDs), but the most up to date one is bochs, which is free, can run Windows 98, but needs something seriously quick to do so!
