More eBay madness

Something I have noticed recently is people out bidding a Buy-It-Now price.  Typically Buy-It-Now is at the upper end of what the seller expects to get for an item if not even higher.

I was watching an Amiga item auction that started with a low reserve and a $100.00 B I N.  The auction closed at about $138.00.  What is up with that? If someone is willing to pay $138.00 for an item why the heck not just buy it right off for $100.00 instead?  This isn't the only time I've seen it happen either.  This must make sellers really happy.

Maybe because people are generally stupid, especially on ebay, they just have to win, its a part of their nature.

You have the idiots that bid say $10, that then throws the Buy in Now away then you have the people that have money out their arse that bid to win.  Thus the ebay madness!

OK, here's how it works:

A seller sets a buy it now price of $100USD.
The starting bid is let's say $10USD.
Someone makes a bid for any amount less than $100USD and that's it, the buy it now price becomes unavailable from that point on (it would only stay if there is a reserve price too, and would dissapear in this case only when the reserve price is reached).
Meanwhile, more bidders arrive who maybe would have bought it at $100USD buy it now, however it's not available anymore.
They start outbidding each other gradually, and what do you know...the end price becomes higher than the original buy it now price. :-)

I once (not me my daughter) however... in a auction close to the end (2m or so) clicked the "Bid" button, and that was assumed as "Buy Now". Neitherless to say that the "Buy Now" option were >20€ more expensive than the actual biddind price... bug maybe?

I listed an auction yesterday with a buy it now, withing ten minutes, yes, teb minutes, the buy-it-now had been hosed. I guess, I've learned that lesson.
