Beatles, hands down - for a start, they wrote their own music.

Although I do like Elvis.

Elvis may well be "The King", but the Beatles were better musicians (well three of them at least).

The UK folks seem to be pro Beatles, for some reason. :-)

The Beatles made some good rock (f*ck "yellow submarine")
I hated the Beatles for a long time because of the music lessons at school (Beatles only) but when I heard their (hard?)rock I quickly changed my opinion about them..

And Elvis is plain gruesome.

Oh well, if I was Canadian, I'd be singing the praises of Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morisette and Bryan Adams....

@Cyberus:

Hehe. :-) The Beatles were class, no doubt about it, although I do fancy the Stones better.

It's amazing how innovation in music always seemed to come straight from the UK.

Nickelback are Canadian too... *shudder*

However, The Paperbacks are from Canada, and they're brilliant.

I actually know more Elvis songs than Beatles songs. I have an old casette tape of some Elvis vinyl and it makes me want to own a Chevvy and drive nowhere in particular.

But the Beatles were unquestionably much more talented.

Elvis has an amazing instrument, and when you listen to the music he wanted to do (ie the spirituals) as opposed to the rock crap, he is one of the most talented pop culture vocalists of the 20th century.

The beatles are incomparable to Elvis because they were doing an entirely different thing.  As far as their contribution to commercial music is concerned, they are invaluable due to their inclusion of so-called "world-music" rhythms and styles, and their expansion of techniques and ideas that had not been explored by contemporary commercial music.  There was some strong artistry within the group, and an interesting combination and evolution of ideas.

Personally, I prefer listening to Elvis more, I hate the Beatles.  I don't love Elvis, but I do hate the Beatles.
