Gfx cards and Boing bags
« on: August 30, 2004, 03:22:21 PM »
I have just installed 3.9 on a fresh harddrive and was going to install the two BoingBags but I vaguely remember mention of the rom update being incompatable with gfx card drivers.  Is this true or did I dream it?  Would I just install them but delete the rom update?

Cheers.

IIRC you can install the boingbags and remove the romupdate from the startup.

I may be wrong but I remember doing something like that to get BB2 to work.

Better wait for someone to confirm that though :-)

The latest version of CGX 4 (see VGR) is fully compatible with BB2, so you don't need to fiddle with the rom update. I don't know about P96, though.

I once had an CyberVision64/3D and it didn't
work on my A4000 with 3.9/BB2. I tried P96 drivers
and also CyberGraphX V4. It didn't even work
when I removed the ROM-update.
It only came to life when I completely removed
WB 3.9/BB2, and replaced it with WB3.1.
Very strange...
 :-o
But, because I only wanted WB3.9/BB2 on my A4000,
I sold the (..beep..) little (..beep..)CV64/3D!

I installed 3.9 & both BBs over 3.1. I have a PicassoIV &
use P96 v2. After installing BB2, my system would not boot.
I ended up replacing Devs:AmigaOS ROM Update & C:Setpatch
in BB2 with the ones from BB1 & all was well. The BBS don't
mess with the gfx card drivers, but it does mess with the scsi buss.

I have installed OS 3.9 BB2 on my system and have not had any problems. I have a towered A4000D. My Gfx card is a PicassoIV with the newest version of Picasso96 I could find on the net.

I had installed "fresh" OS 3.5 when it can out and later OS 3.9. I had only just "discovered" BB2. It's not listed on the Amiga Inc. site and it was only after seeing it mentoned here and as a requirement for some Aminet programs that I used Google to find it at H&P.

You can give it a shot with the new update, but be prepared to boot with no startup-sequence if things go awry.

Who knows what causes things to work with one system and not others. Perhaps one of the many programs I have installed may have fixed the problem before it hit me?

Looks like this issue is pretty much fleshed out, but I may as well interject...

A3000D, OS 3.9 BB2, PicassoIV with 3.9 installed P96 (2.0, I think): no problems with the ROM update!

Hi,

just wanted to tell that it could be helpful to skip the scsi update of BB2 (C:SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES "scsi.device").

It helped on my old system, the A1200 mentioned below, but with a Blizzard 1260 + Blizzard SCSI kit instead. With BB2 installed, the computer would just go into a reboot loop, but after I skipped the scsi update everything worked like a charm.

The reason CGX had issues with BB2 is that BB2 includes new exec.library. CGX had a bug where it would consider exec version other than 40 KS 3.0 one, and try to apply some workarounds that would only work on KS 3.0. I discovered and reported the bug. Using latest CGX4 version fixes the problem.

However, BB2 has some other problems with some systems. It might be worth a try to disable the scsi.device, for example.

I should have bought an PicassoIV with ScanDoubler/FF
on board, instead of the CyberVision 64/3D...
But it's too late now, I sold the little **ck*r!
