YAM replacement
« on: August 28, 2004, 10:52:48 PM »
Can you suggest me any other emailer than YAM.
(It crashes badly when exiting, HDD spins down and wont start after reboot (that, BTW,doesnt work), I even get blue screen (custom chips?). The problem is probably in hardware, but I'll have to live with it.)

Since memory is limited (4Mb), it would be great if it was small, simple and non-MUI.

As I'm sure a lot of people will recommend, Simplemail. It's free, more stable than YAM for most people, and has just about the same feature set.

But it uses MUI, as almost all of the e-mail clients on Amiga do.

If the HDD spins down it has detected a head crash or a similar disastrous failure. So you should rather replace the HDD than YAM.

Bye,
Thomas

I'll try simplemail.
BTW, HDD (2,5") spins down on every reset, and after about 30 min of inactivity, so its not that uncommon.
Better sorry than worry.

Try Iris maybe as well, it's on Aminet.  I wanted a client that would work on 2.1 (i.e. w/o 3.1 datatypes, etc.).  YAM, though an excellent email client, requires 3.0+ ROMs.  One problem I haven't been able to figure out though, is that Iris downloads email okay, but I can't seem to upload with it (gives me 'ARexx server error??).  Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?  This is on a stock A500.

Sounds like RexxMast is not loaded at startup. Just add this command to s:user-startup to start it:
Run >nil: sys:system/RexxMast

This program is needed in memory to run ARexx programs.
