« on: August 24, 2004, 12:09:17 AM »
how do i get my amiga on t'internet?

i've got my router to find it, but i still cant get on the net with it

this is usung the miami(3.1g i think) demo from an old cucd, as the one on aminet didnt like me - even after i downloaded all of the archives,

since my old netconnect(GENESIS) software doenst work, and no-one seems to know anything about it, miami looks like my only hope, even tho its a demo

can amiga's use DHCP, or has that not been written yet?

@_caddy_:

Check your router manual for how to use it with a computer which has a static ip-address, then set up your Amiga with a static ip-address using Genesis.

@_caddy_:

You could always try cleaning the cd and trying it in another CD-ROM drive. What version of AmigaOS do you have?

3.0, netconnect 2.3, a 3com ethernet card pcmcia, a a1200, blizzard 030/50/882, and about 5 gig of hard drive space

the problem aint cleening the CD, the program wont accept the licence code that's printed on the manual, and therefore wont unarchive it

just under the black splodge is where the serial code is located you cansee above it it says "your unique serial code"

but it asks for a licence code- i'm not convinced that they are the same

Can't remember really if Miami3.x supports DHCP, but Miami Deluxe supports it, and i'm using it. I also used Miami Deluxe and my PCMCIA ethernet card to go online and surf the net. DHCP worked fine, you even can configure a static ip in Miami and it still works. Just be sure you put the DNS Servers in Miami database! Else you are online but can't browse the net and such.

Try to use these:
194.159.73.136 and 194.159.73.137

If Miami3.x doesn't support DHCP, then just type in a static ip in Miami Interface section. Check your modems manual for the ip gateway. Some use a number like 192.168.0.1 and others use different ip's. Mine uses 10.0.0.2 as the default gateway. And the modems built in DHCP range sets 10.0.0.1 till 10.0.0.15 as reserved. So i put a static ip as 10.0.0.16 in MiamiDx. And it works.
But still i guess it's the DNS Servers problem you have there.  :-)

Miami 3.x supports DHCP, and there is a dhcp client patch for genesis allso, dhcp_amitcp.lha  you can found it from aminet.

Genesis would be better if you get it to work because you can´t get serial key to miami.

For standard DHCP all you need is Miami. Use MiamiInit (comes with Miami) to detect and creat a file you then import into miami to set up miami. This will work as long as your provider does not use PPOE tunneling, DHCP with PPOE is only supported by MiamDX.

The other option you have is to wait for Roadshow the stach that comes with OS4.0 there will be a 68xxx version released and it will be the most complete stack released for the Amiga. The problem is it could be 2wks to 6mnths before it comes out.

So basically with Miami you need to find out if your ISP useses DHCP (Miami3.1g) or DHCP/PPOE(MiamiDX).

What kind of router are you using?

You should be able to get your Amiga surfing the net in a few short minutes if you are willing to configure it using static IP. That's what I ended up doing after reading the installation instructions for the DHCP add-on for Genesis. I'm using a LinkSys WRT54G, but the idea should work for any router. I picked an address I wasn't using with DHCP (192.168.1.21 for example) and plugged that into Genesis as the Amiga's IP address. I then went into the router's configuration and looked at its connection settings. I was able to see what DNS servers it was using and plugged those into Genesis. The Amiga was then up and surfing the web at DSL speed in about the 10 minutes it took to do all this. I'm sure Miami lets you use static IP addresses, too, so the idea should work fine there as well.
