That price is insane.

It's a bog-standard 25Mhz A4k'30, with 3.0 ROMS and (most likely soldered) crippled Rev 9 Buster.  Worth £70 at the most.

Almost £300 with 5 days left in the auction?  In the past I've paid £30 for an A4000 in the same condition as this but with a socketed rev 11 Buster and '040.  The MOST I ever paid for an A4000 was £140 but that came with a Vlab card, Scan doubler, GVP SCSI + RAM board and a 2GB H/drive.

Paying £300 for a 4000/030 when you could get a brand new Pegasos II for the same money is crazy.

@Lando:

Even if that Amiga 4000 is a bit expensive it is hard to compare it to a new computer. I dont suppose that anyone buys a classic Amiga for its price or performance compared to a new computer, it is rather bough for what it is - a piece of enthusiast-equipment.

@ Lando

I think you must have got a few lucky deals there, mate..when did you get those A4000s ?

I agree with Patrik, you don't get that A4000 unless you got an old itch to scratch and only a classic Miggy can scratch it.

Well I got two mint A4000s and a nice 2000 w/2 monitors on eBay for a steal. $300.  That is very uncommon here in the rich USA where everyone blows their whole paycheck on a 4000 computer. LOL  I did notice in the EU the 4000's sell for cheaper normally, however, they are usually trashed/yellowed.  This sure is a nice one!  Price reflects that too. :P
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

I got one A4k on Amibench ages ago, which was £30, and I've bought another 3 or 4 on Ebay.de (Ebay.co.uk is too expensive).

I take the point about classic Amigas being "collectible" but just comparing that A4k'030 on Ebay to others I've bought on Ebay, it's at least 3 times too expensive, and the fact that it's most likely got a buggy rev.9 buster means the buyer will have problems if he upgrades it with a graphics card, SCSI controller or Mediator.  The auction says it's never been opened except to install the Fast RAM, so the battery is also likely to be corroded to hell.

Maybe since it's in such good condition externally he just wants to buy it and leave it in the box but if he actually wants an Amiga to use then there are far better deals out there.

I can't understand why some people can't accept that others are willing to pay that much for a classic machine, if he's willing to part with that kind of money, good for him, I hope he gets much enjoyment out of it. And why is it that everytime the price of a classic Amiga shoots through the roof on eBay, someone always jumps in with a comment like "Der, gee, you can get a Pegasos/A1 for that much money...", FFS, who gives a shit, obviously the person whos bidding would rather part with that much money for a REAL Amiga.

Supply and demand.

I should try selling my 3000T.  Only thing is it weighs a TON.

@ MagicM

I reckon if you had sold that these days, it would have fetched maybe double...

i think that the person who has the highest bid in this auction is being scamed, not only because of the price but because of the fact that the seller is bidding on the auction to raise the price of the amiga,if you look in the bid history there is a bidder called "ontherockuk",he previously was called "chris1979telf" and the seller of this item is called "deanchris2004". i think these people are one of the same.

Now that brings up an interesting question:

What if he bids on his own item and wins it? Does he then put it on eBay again? I suppose there's no protection for us if he does?

I thought that this was difficult cos you have to register a credit card (?) to set up an ebay account. Therefore how do you set up multiple accounts??

Regards
I like Amigas

I didn't need a credit card when I set up mine I think. I got sent a paper letter with a code to check my address IIRC.
