IP problems
« on: February 03, 2003, 01:03:48 PM »
Hi all,
I recently changed my internet provider and since then I am unable to connect right away, I always have to dial several times before I get a successfull connection. Miami tells me something about IP so my question is : is there some settings I could alter to get online at first ?

Although 99% this should be a problem with your ISP, what does the miami error read?
Anyway is the only way

Can you try setting up with a 'free' ISP, ie. free subscription ISP, like we have Freeserve in the UK, I don't know what France has in that way of ISPs...

I had the same problem (? perhaps)...

i changed servers and found i could not connect somtimes...in my case it was the actual modem...
The original V90modem worked with BT but not with freeserve...i ended buying another v90modem... and it worked fine...although not as fast ,(mostly) only 48000 bps...
i had 50000 before...

Also try tweaking the packet size in miami ; and turn down the port-connection speeds (and increase one step at a time).

worked fine this morning but not yesterday. Miami message was something like "your modem server is not responding..." (I will precise next time I get the error).
I use a varIO card and packet speed is set to 115Ko, since the card could in theory handle 400Ko.
This morning I could not send mail but I could receive them. Reason is I changed the provider but I kept my email address with my former provider so the pop and smtp names are differents. It was working 2 days ago like that until this morning.

An obvious one really, but just in case... you have done MiamiInit again since you changed ISP? This sometimes picks up ISP-side peculiarities.

I did not run miaminit again, just changed settings manually (phone number, id and password).
It is working again...
Probably something to do with my ISP
