The main advantages of OS3.5/3.9 are the TCP/IP stack, large HD support, CDFS, and other support software. If none of this interests you, then stick to OS3.0/3.1.

Plus things as integrated deficons, newicons, integrated search function, async wb, improved datatypes that make it much more useful than 3.0/3.1.. everyone with 3.1 roms really should get OS3.9, its well worth its money..

Not quite..
OS3.5 and 3.9 replaces some of the modules from the 3.1 rom and reboots. The romupdate file isn`t a rom image ,so it can`t be softkicked they way other programs like degraders can.
On schedule, and suing

You can softkick 3.1 and use OS3.5/3.9, but you cannot patch the OS with the patch file in devs.

Where is this?  The Find utility in the System folder?  If so, I don't consider that very integrated.

I agree though that 3.9 is a very nice OS and has much more functionality than 3.0/3.1.  But, if you're only going to play games then don't bother.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Why not?

Have you recently looked into the Window menu  ?

How does OS 3.9 run on a stock A1200? Just wondering, as I was looking at upgrading as well to either OS 3.5 or OS3.9. The Amiga I just picked up from eBay has a 68020 accelerator in it I think (I haven't got it yet). How hard is it to attach a CD-Rom to the Amiga 1200? I'll go check some other threads on this as well. Thanks!

It doesn't. You need at least 6MB RAM.

To provisorily connect a CD drive should not be too difficult. You need a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter and a power cable. However you need to leave the case open and the drive lies uncovered on the table.

Another possibility is to connect the Amiga HDD to a PC and use WinUAE to install the OS.

Bye,
Thomas

Yes, that just runs the Find utility from the System folder.  I wouldn't call that integrated (it doesn't even use the current window as the search point so I don't know why it's in the Window menu).  I was hoping there was a better solution that I'd overlooked.
