CD filesystem....er...any freeware ones?
« on: August 18, 2004, 10:30:00 PM »
My new love is booting allright now (that's an A4kD ;-)). Next problem is to get the CD-ROM talking and frankly I'm a bit at a loss here. It's a 3.0 machine so no CD stuff included with the OS.

I faintly recall using a CDFS on my A1200 called CacheCDFS or something. However, I can't seem to find this on aminet. All I could find was some CD filing system using the internal 'scsi.device' and not something like 'atapi.device'. Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

AmiCDROM and AmiCDFS are both free and work great!
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

scsi.device unit 1 doesn't want to be driven by neither of the ones you mentioned......:-? There's just no response at all. I recall using a device by the name of atapi.device or something on my A1200. Are you sure that on a 3.0 machine the cd-rom can be recognised through scsi.device?

Oh, yes you need an atapi.device since you are using an IDE interface (I used with the A3000 real SCSI).  Sorry.

You can use IDEFix then if you don't mind the nag screen.  Or, get the questionable registration from amigarealm.com.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hum,
so that should be :
DEVICE=atapi.device
UNIT=1

i`m sure that AmiCDFS will work on any amiga...

@blobrana

IIRC, ATAPI.DEVICE doesn't appear unless you use something like IDEFix/IDEMax or OS3.5+ SetPatch.

Hum,
tnx for correction.

Heres my CD0: filetype

FileSystem   = L:CDFileSystem
Flags      = 0
Surfaces   = 1
SectorsPerTrack   = 1
SectorSize   = 2048
Mask      = 0x7ffffffe
MaxTransfer   = 0x100000
Reserved   = 0
Interleave   = 0
LowCyl      = 0
HighCyl      = 0
Buffers      = 5
BufMemType   = 0
StackSize   = 1000
Priority   = 10
GlobVec      = -1
DosType      = 0x43443031

/* The Device and Unit fields are controlled by tooltypes in the CD0 icon.
 *
 * Device   = scsi.device

Perhaps alter the FileSystem? (to whatever system you choose)

If you really like booting your a4000 ;) you can patch the scsi device.  This solution requires a double reset then your IDE device can use the scsi.device. Hey it's free don't knock it.

Installation of ATAPI cdrom

@fleg

Please don't use that patch anymore!
it's a beta kickstart 3.1 scsi.device with all you can imagine of problems :-)

@ odin
you better have to install a 3.1 rom in your amiga and OS3.5 or 3.9 as you will have all you need comming with minus the bugs ;-)
