Amiga 2000/3000/4000 Battery Acid Leakage Damage
« on: August 14, 2004, 01:43:13 PM »
Hi.

I have a 2x A2000, 1x A3000T, 3x A4000D, where there have been trouble with the battery acid from the mounted battery for the clock.

I had some of my Amigas staying on my attic, (haven't had much time for my amigas lately (the last 5 years), so I knew that there would probably be trouble with battery acid on some of the motherboards, where I was stupid enough not to remove the battery ;-(

On several of them the battery had already leaked, and I removed the battery's and cleaned with a moist/wet paper cloth, until I had removed all traces of the acid.

I know that there might be an even better mehtod, but I just had to remove the acid, to prevent further damage.

On one of the Amiga 2000's the leakage was pretty severe, and I thought that the board was wasted, so before powering it up, I removed all expansion cards (to avoid damage to them ...), and it showed a nice WB 1.3 screen. I inserted a game, and it started to boot. I went away for 2 mins, and it seemed stuck, so I resetted, and I got first a dark blue(RGB:(0,0,8)) screen which rather quickly turned into a light green(RGB:(0,15,0)) startup screen .... I cannot remember the meaning of the colour codes, but maybe someone can.

Also, it would be nice with any hints to what might be wrong, and lastly, what the best preservation one can do, when the accident have happened(the battery acid leakage)

Thank you in advance.

Best regards: Jacob
