hardware issues with my VT/Flyer 4000
« on: August 13, 2004, 04:03:45 PM »
I don't know if anyone can help me with this, but I surely appreciate it if you know anyone who has knowledge that can help me and pass the word back here.  Thanks.

I recently purchased seperate Toaster 2000/Flyer and Toaster 4000 boards w/software & manuals.  These boards were sold as-is, and I took a chance to see if I can get them to work.  I did everything in the manual for all of them.

My most important problem is trying to work with my 4000 and Flyer.  I'm currently have installed 4.2G software installed on my A4000 (desktop).  I currently have Workbench 3.1 installed and set up my partition dedicated to the Toaster enviroment to be booted when I need it.  When I hooked up my toaster-4000 alone, I see that I am not able to get any video from Input 2 after trying every input I can think of.  All I get is a horizontal out-of-sync white bar on black video.  I tested 3 & 4, and they work fine.  BTW, my toaster does not have an extra connector on the BNC adaptor--only the main board has an extra connector on the side, like my VT 2000 board, to hook up my flyer using the ribbon cable for the 2000 board.

My flyer, before I plugged in, had a modification made. I read about the recall, and it looks like the previous owner did have it repaired.  I hooked up my Seagate 9GB ST19141WG drive on each SCSI bus, ran tests and passed with great results.  But, when I tried to record some video, cut the clip down and save, all I see are black icons in the Files column.  When I tried to play them back with my monitor hooked up to the Program output, the sound
studders and the video is like of a snowy tv channel.  Sometimes there's slight diagonal grey bars across my monitor.  I tried swapping with 3 monitors and still no result.  However I can hear the sound without problems when I disconnect the monitor from the Program output.

My 2000 toaster board will not even calibrate.  It fails every single time I restarted the program.  I did follow instructions from its manual and still no luck.

Your time and value is appreciated.  Thanks.
