Hey I just bought a kit too!  AdIDE2 and Novia mounting kit.  Do tell me what all you need to do to get it mounted/working.  What kind of laptop IDE drives work?  I have some small ones like 60MB and 80MB, but also have some larger ones, like 1.2GB and 4GB.  I wonder if those work.  I know they work on my 600HD and 1200, but wonder if they do on the 500 and 1.3.

well, I'm going to find out Monday if a 2.5 gig works.. I only had this 84meg lying around..   Its a snap to hook up..just pull off the cpu, plug in controller, plug cpu into controller and hook up the cables.  I only have 1.2 roms so I cant autoboot.. I'm probably going to buy Red's 1.3 ROM he has on ebay as I need it.  But I need a few A500 parts too.. :(

Sweet! :-)  I remember looking at those things in AmigaWorld and wishing I could have one.. ended up with an A590 instead with one of those nasty, slow, loud 20 meg XT drives.
After that it was a Trumpcard 500 AT and a 170 meg IDE drive, which was a MUCH better setup.

I've got one of those A590 hard drive units. If you yank out the 20 MB HD, and put in a nice SCSI drive, they run excellently. I wouldn't mind trying out a IDE hack for the 500, although I think my SCSI drive runs better in my 500 than an AT drive would.

Why don´t you just step over to a kickstart 3.1 chip ??? That way you´ll have a real A500 with loads of more possibilities !! Plug in a turboboard and you will even be able to use OS 3.9 from your harddrive (without limitations) and still be able boot an old game from your floppy !!!
Been there and done that  :-)

@TheMagicM

Did you install the LED from the AdIDE2 to the floppy LED as per the manuals?  I am thinking about doing this on mine.

Hi TheMagicM,

Let me know how this works out for you.  I am thinking about installing one of these in my Amiga 500 Tower.  Also try hooking up a CD ROM drive and see how well it works.  I have the CD File System software for Workbench 1.3.  Let me know if you need it and I can email you the disk in a DMS file.   :-D

I do not recommend that.  I would use the power LED instead as the hard disk LED.  The disk drive LED lets you know if the disk is still spinning or is being accessed so that you do not eject the disk.  It is dangerous to run a disk drive without an LED.  I did this for a while on one of my Amiga 2000 computers and damaged several disks because I ejected them while they were still spinning.

Hi TheMagicM,

I can probably steal a 1.3kickstart from a canabalized a500 I have in the garage (have a few actually pulled to bits)

If you wish, pay postage from Oz to Usa and its yours :-)

Maybe the amiga.org users should get together and do a virtual swap meet kind of thing online, check the bits'n'peices they have lying around collecting dust and have no appreciable value except to other needy amiga users

I know I have loads of Amiga stuff lying around from various machines like a500's... floppy drives, cases, working motherboards, chips, cables, keyboards that sit in the garage doing nothing while some amiga user could really appreciate and use it.

Az
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example

Because then he would not be able to run many of the vintage Amiga games.  Not every Amiga computer has to have Kickstart 3.1.  It really depends on what you want to do with the machine.   :-)

Heeheeheheh!  :-D

Chuck that Connor before it chucks your data!  :-(

My brother who once used Amiga lost several of his programmed games and music modules because his connor broke one day.... And all of the hard drives that broke were Connor..  :-o
