Blizzard memory

From what i've read, Blizzard 030s can take up to 128 MB, and Blizzard 060s can only take 64. Is this true?  Does it seem strange to some people?  I don't want to seek out a 128 MB SIMM for my 060 only to find it takes less than a 030!

As far as i know both 030 & 060 can only take 64MB simms on them. For the 128MB you need the SCSI IV Kit addon.
And with this you can get 128MB on 060. :-)
Or wait, was it that max 64MB on the turboboard and max 128MB on the SCSI IV Kit? Then that would be 192MB... :-D

AFAIK
Both boards take 128MB
And can have an additional 128MB with the SCSI-IV kit.

Have you checked amiga-hardware.com or amiga.resource.cx?
That will have the info.

They both have the info, but the results are conflicting.  One says the 1260 takes 128 MB, the other says 64 MB.
If anyone runs 128 MB on their Blizzard without the SCSI attatchment, please let me know!

The blizzard 1260 without SCSI attachment will accept 128MB simms (at least mine did) and you can have 256MB total with the SCSI kit.

The BPPC will take 256MB RAM too.

The restrictions are physical. Most double-sided 128 MB SIMMs won't fit in the Blizzard's flat SIMM slot. The standard recommendation is to use a single-sided 64 MB SIMM on the Blizzard and a double-sided 128 MB SIMM on the SCSI-IV. 192 MB is still a pretty impressive amount of RAM for an Amiga.

Here are the specs:

72-pin SIMM
32-bit (non-parity, nMX32)
5V
unbuffered
60ns EDO or 70ns FPM
single or double-sided
less than 25mm in height (for an A1200 desktop case)

Most memory sold as IBM PS/2 compatible should work. Note that newer high density modules will not work. Also note that on the 1230-IV, you need to properly set the memory speed switch.

Here's from an actual user of 256MB

I've tested 2x128MB simms (HP Brand, model D4893 which is the only brand of 128MB simms that seems to be widely spread) on the following systems:

Blizzard 1230, Blizzard 1260, BPPC 603e, BPPC 603e+ and a friend told me it works on the MTK1230(or was it 40) accelerator.

They furthermore also work with the scsi-kit. Of course the simms are big, and won't fit flat down in the simm socket on the blizzards, but they work in an angle over the cpu just fine. If u got a big fan, problem too, and don't even think of using them in desktop

How did you fit the SIMM on the 1230 Bliz?

How can you accomplish this? i tried with an 64mb SIMM, and the SIMM gets loose from the contacts  :-?

The 64 MB SIMM i'm using now is double sided, but fits perfectly without touching anything on the 1260.  This is interesting stuff, i may well track down a 128 just to see.  Thanks for responses.

Well, simms comes in many sizes and forms. These simms I've been using allowed it to sit in an angle in the 1230. If the contacts are not as good, just use a rubberband.

They are listed as BlizzardPPC compatible but will work with both Blizzard 1260s and the 1230-MK IVs.

I've gone for this deal, as the HP ones in eBay above are in USA and Google reveals the brand new prices are Xtreme!

My '060 Blizz card in my A2000 has 128 meg ram in it, and works just great.  Wish I had something similar to put in my A3000 desktop.  Anyone have anything available?  Best regards...Art
