Amiga 2000 for sale. Refurbished by the DoomMaster himself !
« on: August 05, 2004, 11:19:38 AM »
Hi Everybody,

I found another Amiga 2000 computer at my local Goodwill.  It is in really great shape.  I have totally refurbished it to like new condition and it works great.  The battery has also been carefully removed from the motherboard and there is no corrosion on the motherboard.

I would be willing to trade this computer for a Picasso or CyberVision video card or for an Atari Mega ST computer.  Pmail me if you have any questions.  If you want me to I can also autograph the inside of the cover with permanent black ink.   :-D

Hehe!
An A2000 signed bo none less than the infamous DoomMaster himself! Too bad over-seas shipping would be a killer. :-D

You really, really should be putting this in the "Amiga on eBay"-forum, you know.

But, I am not selling it on eBay.  I thought that I would post it first on Amiga Org, to give you guys first dibs on it.  I like your Red Barron picture.  He is my favorite pilot of all times.  I fly WWI flight sims on my PC and I love WWI planes.  I was thinking about buying the older model kits of WWI planes and building and painting them when I retired.    :-D

Yeah, but that's the only part of the forum where advertising is allowed. :-)

Manfred Richthofen was truly one of the greatest. I have always preferred submarine simulators, though.

Building a WW1-plane could be cool. Just don't fly near a USAF-base with Fokkers on the plane. :-P

Hi LinchpiN,

In what way? Battery removal and...?

Ok, here goes (you asked for it):

First, the whole Amiga 2000 computer was dis-assembled.  Then the battery was very carefully de-soldered from the motherboard.  The dust was blown off the motherboard with compressed air.  The Zorro II, CPU, and Video slots were carefully cleaned with a Super Nintendo cartridge slot cleaner (it works great).  Next, the top cover on the power supply was removed and the dust was blown out with compressed air.  The 80mm fan was replaced with a new fan that was made in Japan (very high quality).  The power supply/drive chassis was wiped clean with a 100% cotton rag and WD-40 and then wiped again with a clean dry towel.  The inside of the case and cover was also wiped and cleaned with WD-40 (WD-40 reconditions metal and gets rid of moisture and helps prevent rust).  The old cork feet were removed from the bottom of the case and replaced with 5 new feet.  One of the few problems with the Amiga 2000 was that it only had 4 feet and the center part of the bottom of the case was not supported.  So, this would cause problems.  These problems are fixed by adding a foot to the middle of the bottom of the case.  Finally, the Amiga 2000 was re-assembled.  All of the old metric screws were replaced with brand new ones.  The front plastic part of the case was then carefully cleaned and the famous Amiga 2000 label carefully reglued and polished.  Then I put this Amiga 2000 through extensive testing to make sure that it works and that it holds up to its proud heritage of being a Flagship Amiga computer.  The only thing left for me to do is autograph the underside of the cover.   :-D

@ Doomer

Wow dude - seems you have worked hard on the old girl, well done :-)

Hopefully you listing all those modifications / service items will help you to give the amiga a good home.

Unfortunatly, to ship something that possibly weighs more than the engine of my car from Oregon to the UK would possibly not be worth my while, plus its 110V and also, it would proberbly get broken.

Oh, and besides, i have an a2k already, but i retired it when it smoked and worked no more  :-o

Now the proud owner of my a1200T :-)

Cheers for the list

@Boingboss

It's good to see someone spending so much time to restore a machine like that.  Are you planning on restoring other vintage Amigas?

You might make a decent sideline in restored systems.

a 20 in the UK yes, but here in the States people pay way to much for them. i've seen them go for $100 quite a bit. Heck I still see stock A4000 machines go for over $600 here.

Doomy,

How the heck are you finding so many Amigas at Thrift stores???  I have been searching for years and have never once found an Amiga.  I have found Commodore and Atari's but never an Amiga.  You have found Amiga 600's, Amiga 1200's and Amiga 2000's, what else have you found?  Are all these in the Beaverton area?  Just curious.

I've come across 3 or 4 myself at a local thrift store, they had 2 or 3 2000's including an HD model a few years ago, and I heard that they even had a 3000 and possibly even a Toaster-equipped one at one point!  I never bought any of them though, just don't have the space or time for any more Amigas :(

BTW, TjLaZer, I have a pic of myself at an A500 in a corner that is SO much like your avatar it's scary ;)  If I ever find it I'll have to upload it for a laugh.
