Worth selling?
« on: August 04, 2004, 09:27:14 PM »
It has been a great many years since I left the world of Amiga's.  I have a ton of old computers from that era, most I will throw away, but the A500 has some do-dads that I thought I'd check first to see if they have value (monetary or special need someone has).

If I recall, my a500 has a Bodega Bay, DCTV, an '030 accellerator (daystar I think), and some kind of scsi solution in the bodega.  None of this has been turned on since '91 or so to my recollection.

I hate selling things online, but I have no idea the rarity or demand for things like the bodega or DCTV...any thoughts?

Most old Amiga things aren't worth much.  But, that doesn't mean people won't pay large amounts for a bit of nostalgia.  (Remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure...).  Best bet is post a message without prices and see what kind of offers you get.  It might not be much $$$, but for a little effort you can make a few bucks and save an Amiga from the trash heap.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Yikes!  You probably should at least run an ad for them first.  Even if it's just a local "pick this up from me" type of thing.  There's no telling what may have become rare over the years, or what someone really wants to have.  It's really a shame to throw out hardware that old.

As for the Amiga gear, the Bodega Bay is fairly rare.  (I have one of the only three I've ever run across.)  The A500 '030 accelerator is probably fairly rare, as well.  Especially if it has the expanded 32-bit RAM present.  Both have widely varying prices, according to region, condition, completeness, and expansion level.

The DCTV is fairly common, but it's kind of a cool little toy.  They'll still bring $20 and up, depending on location, condition, etc.

And even the basic A500 still brings a few bucks, or is a goldmine of parts for other machines.  A far better fate to part it out so other machines can live than to just drop it in the dumpster.

I wish I could get offers on stuff I put up for sale. All I ever get is "how much you want?" emails. And, of course if I say something too high, nobody ever wants to haggle. It's always "too rich for my blood, have a nice life". :-(

That´s what Ebay is good for. Put it on sale worldwide and give some examples of shipping costs at distant coutries ...
use PayPal or international bank transfers (IBAN+BIC) to make it fast and safe ... that´s how I like to do it ...

Those are some rare jems you have there. Not sure on how much they would go for. I almost got a Bodega Bay when I had my A500. I haven't seen any of those in years.
I say put up a detailed list here or try selling them on ebay. Not to mention that there are people that collect old computers.

I would test, then eBay these items.  The DCTV and A500 aren't worth much.  A processor accelerator that plugs into the 68000 slot can fetch $150 USD, and as noted above, the bodega bay is an unknown, since it comes up rarely, but I saw a similar Amiga 1000 Zorro chassis go for $125 recently.

I still have a Bodega Bay and an 030 for the 500 in it myself. It was the second bodega bay I owned. I bought and sold one then bought one again. I have been reluctant to sell it since its such a neat and rare piece of hardware.

I am sure someone would love to get their hands on one so you should definitely put it up somewhere for sale.

Thanks for the feedback.  The Amiga hardware has not yet been revealed in my cleaning of my old 'junk room', but when it is uncovered I plan to inventory and smoke-test it, then post availability for pick-up to some forums, including this one, and see if anybody within driving distance cares enough to collect it.

I'm not really up for the hassle of selling it, because I'm lazy and apparently not poor enough.  It would bug me to throw it in the dump, but I can't justify the space all my old computers take up.  Girlfriend moving in within a few weeks, heheh.

FYI, I live about 40mi. West of Atlanta, Ga.

@Stampson

I am on my way there now..............just please open the door when I ring the Bell ok?

I am bringing a van :-)

Just kidding................but I Live In New York and have family constantly traveling back and forth. I am seriously....and I mean seriously interested in that Amiga internal 030...............see I have a Video Card for the A500, that is useless because it plugs into the side expansion of the A500, which leaves no room to add memory or processor...............this 030 of yours would be af great use to me.

PM mail me please.
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

I am seriously interested in the Bodega bay. As some of you might have gathered, I have a bit of an A500 fetish

I have been looking at Zorro solutions for my A500 for quite a while, and it soon dawns on me that in this day and age, I might as well pick up an A1500/A2000. But I really want to use that A500!!

The big problem is that I live in the UK. I gather that the owner just wants it go to a good home. But if anyone is perhaps going to pick up the 030 accelerator and doesn't want the Bodega bay, I'd be willing to pay them, say $100(?), for them to ship it to me, should it be working ok :-). I'd really appreciate that. I know it's a long shot, but 'Who Dares Wins'.

:-) Thanks.

Regards,
Cyberus

A word of warning:  Speaking as an owner of a Bodega Bay, I can assure you shipping would be difficult and expensive.

Honestly, I don't know what shipping rates look like to the UK, but even just shipping it across the US would be VERY expensive.  (>$50, most likely)  Remember, the Bodega Bay is a box the DEPTH of an A2000, and the WIDTH of an A500 with a GVP A530 (making it wider than an A2000), and nearly the HEIGHT of an A2000 sitting on top of an A500.

The thing is HUGE.  It's difficult to stress this enough.  I'd have mine hooked up and running, if I had a table large enough to fit it on.  I kid you not.

The box, itself, is all metal, so it's fairly heavy, but the side adaptor that comes down and mates with the A500 is a plastic cover over a thinner metal sheet protecting the adaptor board.  So, its weight coupled with its size and unique shape make it rather delicate.  Especially near the area that plugs to the A500 port.

I fully understand why he doesn't want to sell this item on eBay...  Packaging it would be tough, and the chances of it making it through shipping in one piece aren't that good.  I was fortunate enough to find mine locally.
