Sensi Software + Bitmap Brothers = Tower Studios!
« on: August 02, 2004, 02:28:51 PM »
It seems two of the biggest companies in the classic Amiga gaming market have joined forces to form Tower Studios.
They will be mostly targeting the mobile phone market with classics such as Sensi Soccer (best football ever) and Cannon Fodder. They got the rights to do this from Kuju who are the publishers, Codemasters own the IP to these games.

The Tower Studio team is made up of Jon Hare - Ex head of Sensible Software, Mike Montgomery - Ex head of The Bitmap Brothers, John Phillips - Ex technical Director of the Bitmap Brothers, plus quality consulting from Stoo Cambridge and Chris Chapman - Ex Sensi guys.

Sounds like a hell of a team to me.
These guys are very much missed in the Amiga market, sheer talent who between them made some of the best games ever to grace the Amiga.

Eurogamer: How faithful to the original Amiga versions will Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder be?

Jon Hare: Remarkably faithful, Sensible Soccer is already playing incredibly well and we are squeezing as many of the tactical and game type options in as we possibly can, yet again it will be the football game written by football fans for football fans and it will piss all over FIFA.

Cannon Fodder will also be much more similar than people expect, you can squeeze a lot out of a mobile phone if you try hard enough you know.

On the one hand, it's very nice to see these teams get back together.
On the other hand, it's unfortunate that they're not (yet) creating new games.
But on the one hand again, at least Amiga users won't be missing out on them if they don't exist ;-)

I wish them luck, and hopefully they'll return to their roots and write some Amiga software if/when the A1/Peg markets become more strongly established.

Sensible soccer on a mobile phone. The saints have answered the prayers. Finally, mobile phones have a purpose to exist (besides emergency calls because you're stuck on a mountain side fending off carnivorous goats).

I'm hoping the version of Sensi they are working on is an updated SWOS. I don't think my phone would ever leave my hand if I could play SWOS on the go. Although any version of Sensi would be great to play multiplayer via bluetooth.
