Motorola xc68lc040rc33b
« on: July 31, 2004, 02:03:47 AM »
I am considering selling the following on ebay.
Motorola XC68LC040RC33B. Pulled from a working Apple mac system. Stats on google brought up this.
33 mhz 179 pin ceramic pga.
Will these work in Amigas and or amiga accelarator cards ?
Just wanted to see if there is any interest before I post,
And it gives you guys a heads up.
Thanks.

68LC040 is a FPUless 68040.

It depends on the accelerator firmware and 68040.library if it handles the 68LC040 properly or not. At least A3640 is known to have shipped with both 68040 and 68LC040. Also some Blizzard PPC cards seem to have shipped with 68LC040.

Cool, very useful info thank you. I have the same series with the floating point but I think I want to keep that one in my mac.

But be aware that an FPU-less 68040 is worth next to nothing, at least in the Amigaworld, don`t know about MACs.
Guess 3-4 $ tops.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

From a non realistic point of view Lemmenk, does this mean it´s easier to overclock it if there´s no fpu ???

I have no clue. Maybe, cos` there is less that could fail (in a sense like you can get max 2 flat tires with a bicycle compared to max of 4 when using a car)
But even if it would be easyer to overclock whats the point since nearly every 040 optimised program will expect to find an FPU and crash so you have to stickt to the 020 version to be on the save side.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

True that... My previous BPPC with LC040 had numerous crashes due to this. Replicated crashes over and over on SysInfo when doing the Speedtest (as it came to calc FLOPS) for instance, though I just managed to see how many MIPS it produced before reboot. ;-)

Oops, and I just bought a Blizzard PPC/040 on Ebay so it seems that I really need to check on the LC on the 68040 if it´s there or not ...
