Amiga.org traffic on the rise?
« on: July 28, 2004, 11:04:32 PM »
As a daily visitor here, it sure seems in the last ~week the volume of users has spiked to levels not seen in a while.

Is it just me or is it getting rather busy around here? Good to see actually:-)

Yeah tis good to see, I was an amiga owner for many years before I found/looked for this site though. I guess lots of people are not happy with microsoft windows and want an alternative, only today in the paper I saw PCs being sold bundled with a Linux OS... change is in the air methinks :-)

Not sure what that has to do with Amiga.  Without startng an OS flamewar, I don't come to this site to look for or to discuss Windows alternatives.

I think I might be in a growing majority of people who remember classic Amiga very fondly, and want to relive some of the fun from those days.

Anyway, I'll stop posting on every thread as soon as my bar changes from "Beginner" to the more accurate "Hobbyist"

There's both - nostalgia in Classic Amigas, and those looking for an alternative to the norm.

As Linux sees more exposure many people see there's an alternative, and the odd few will then wonder what else there is, go looking, and maybe find OS4, MOS.  There's plenty of peeps out there who never had an Amiga ...

Yes.  I've enjoyed watching the number of registered users grow in the short time I've been back on the scene.  It is good to see.

For me it's a return to my computing beginnings with Commodore before professional and higher education sent me the Microsoft route.  I'm happy to be back to my computing roots even if I still use Windows daily for work and such.  I didn't have a huge exposure to the Amiga as I was mostly C64 and 128 junkie for many years even after the Amiga arrived.  I never could afford to get into the Amiga hard core, but now I can and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

@Dalamar,

Yeah, I've done that too.  I'll buy stuff on a whim now becuse I wanted it sooo bad when I was younger and broke-er.

I bought a Fargo dyesub printer for 50 bucks the other day.
And a Pontiac Fiero GT (just sits in the garage)
And 1 of each major PC from around 1977 onward.

Haven't we been saying that since 1997?

I remember those!  Supposed to be the final statement in color printing, back in the day :-)

I'm the same way...couldn't afford this stuff when I was a penniless teen.

Naw... Technoid is the one you want to be at.  ;-)  I was there for quite a while, but now I've gone over and became a "Defender of the Faith."  Not terribly appropriate for me.

Anyhow, I do think a lot of people are just looking for nostalgia and retro items, which brings them here.  Let's face it -- The Amiga was the coolest computer of the late 80's/early 90's.  :-)

Plus the prices on some stuff is so low compared to when it was new.  Amiga is really the exception in how it keeps its value.  I have a perfectly mint SGI Octane R10k SSE with 1GB RAM and a 36GB SCSI drive.  I spent about $400 on the whole rig.  How could I resist?  That was like $30,000 back in 1997.

If Amiga.org actually knew me, they would just set my bar to "Too much caffeine" and lock it there for good.

Actually, it seems that the on topic forums are more popular than the CH.
