Video editing software for os4?
« on: July 28, 2004, 04:20:21 PM »
Hi All
I have been listening to the interviews and speeches from this years Amiwest, which has helped rekindle my waning interest in the Amiga project. The app that would most convince me to purchase an A1/Os4 Would be a video editing suit along the lines of pinnacle`s Studio 9.  I recently spent over £100 for this editing suit, only to find it doesn`t like something in my hardware, rendering many functions ( like exiting the program ) unusable 80( .  The kick of it all is, it works on my dads comp, which I built, and my brothers comp, but not mine!  I would much prefer to  buy an A1 solely (for now) for video editing as this would free up my P.C for gaming 80) as my 120gig h/d is full of video files and would elliminate h/w, s/w conflicts.  If anyone knows of existing or up coming video editing suits (with similar power to that of Studio 9) then please let me know.  So I can start planning my purchase of h/w and s/w  and so I can send the developer an email of support!  :-)
Peace

Remember Newtek's Video Toaster? (http://www.newtek.com/support/tech/faqs/amiga/)

Now there is an open source version at:

@ Zanthras

I agree with you! I want to use my A1 to edit video. Now I have to use my brother`s Pentium 4:-(

@ Pjhutch

I think it will be very dificult to port all those VideoToaster stuff for the A1!

I was wondering the same thing. That's what I want to use my future A1/AOS4 for. During the interview on Sunday, Garry Hare said he didn't know if anyone was developing VE software for AOS4, but that one of his associates did have a conversation or something with Newtek.

If Amiga can get a killer ap type program for video editing that everyone wants, then it could be the thing to get Amiga going strong again. Editing videos is the current big thing nowadays, so if Amiga had the best one, then everyone will want an Amiga. Hopefully, people don't start saying "Oh, Amiga, that's just for making movies", like they did years ago, instead back then it was games. Which was stupid because all anyone ever bought IBM's for was games.

I have only just started getting into VE myself, it`s quite frustrating atm as I have to edit and render to mpeg on my computer send the project upstairs to my dads comp set the dvd menu up and create a disc image, that I then have to send back down to my comp to burn to dvd.  Also I was using a filter to take out some camera shake, it took 4 days to render only to fail to complete the task at the end 80(  All that time I was unable to use my puter, so it would be nice to have the miggy whirling away happily by itself rendering projects whilst I continued gaming on my p.c 80)
Perfect... I just hope someone is brave enough to bring some s/w out for OS4. I had pretty much given up on all things Amiga but the buzz is starting to take hold again.. I really must stop believing all these CEO`s though  :-P

*Sigh*. The concept of the killer app is DEAD. Dee, ee, ay, dee. With stock standard hardware, and very similar concepts of programs interact with each other and the underlying hardware, there is literally nothing left for one platform to distinguish itself from another. Add to that that any VE software requires raw CPU power which the Amiga will never deliver (cheaply), and you are out of the competition. It's touching, and somehow tragically naive, to see people so loyal to the name, but for every single one of them, there will be thousands doing the same on a much better equipped PC.
