Will Blizzard PPC AOS4 support the PCMCIA port?

New site member, returning to the Amiga after too long an absense.

I have a question that someone might be able to help me with.  

I've dug my old Amiga 1200 and Blizzard card out of the loft and it all appears to be working.  I does however have a G-Rex PCI bus board, which I understand is not going to work with AOS4.

I have the option of replacing this with a BVision, which I understand will work with AOS4.  Doing this however means I will have to use a PCMCIA netword adapter.

So will AOS4 on an A1200 + Blizzard PPC allow use of the PCMCIA socket?

Why shouldn't it be supported?
I guess cnet.device will still work on OS4, if not, could be adapted easily, as the source is included. :-D

"Why shouldn't it be supported?" - having been away from the Amiga for quite a while I have no idea, but as it seems to be petty politics that's stopping the G-Rex bus board working with AOS4 I thought it was better to ask!  Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

"I guess cnet.device will still work on OS4, if not, could be adapted easily, as the source is included." - I am not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination so would be completely at the mercy of others if modifications need to be made.  This however would not seem to be too muchy of a problem as the Amiga community is as far as I remember both talented and mostly friendly.

Considering that PCMCIA NICs are the most popular way to get Ethernet on an A1200, I don't think Hyperion could afford for the PCMCIA port not to work ;-) Also, I don't see any reason why it should stop working.

Whilst I can't say for sure about any particular NIC, I should point out that my archaic telmexatapi PCMCIA ATAPI CD-Rom controller worked flawlessly  with OS4 since last year. Furthermore, despite using the existing 680x0 telmexatapi.device, there is no discernable slow down compared to using it on the 040 with 3.x. Doubtless the sheer latency of the PCMCIA slot itself is the limit.

This indicates that the 680x0 emulation is sufficiently capable of handling various odd devices that perhaps wouldn't otherwise get an OS4 native driver. I expect, given the popularity of PCMCIA NIC's, there would be some OS4 native support sooner or later.

I haven't tried my spare NIC yet since my whole 1200 is misbehaving at present :-(
