I had no idea... Amigan metalheads?
« on: July 27, 2004, 07:52:37 PM »
So I'm sitting, here bored at work and decided to rummage through the Aorg general forums...

Amigan metalheads!!  And oldschool ones at that.

Red, I had no idea

I like all kinds of music, but I'll always have a special place in my heart for speed metal.  That said, I thought I'd throw out the name of the best CD I've bought in the last few years:

Exodus - "Tempo of the Damned."

Anybody else have this CD yet?   :-?

I'm listening to Slayer right now :-D

Ok, it's Divine Intervention, but I'm warming up before letting rip with Raining Blood :-D

Where have you been? ;-) I think metalheads outnumber other music fans on here, they're certainly the most vocal. :-D

I have been known to lend my ear to the odd bit of metal. And in the spirit of name-dropping:

http://www.sendmoreparamedics.com

Totally zombie-obsessed lyrics, they're pretty funny. Check out the song 'Driven To Destruction'.

As for that Exodus record, I doubt Red will have it, because it's "anti-American" ;-)

I've yet to be introduced to Exodus.

Wasn't Exodus the outfit that Kirk Hammett was with before he joined Metallica?

You aren't the first to say that, I get that now and then in here

That's funny, people have this preconceived notiton about Republicans. I'm a strong Republican therefore I must be some shirt-n-tie guy pencil-neck stiff who drives a BMW, makes 500K+ per year and listens to classical?  :roflmao:

I was never a big Exodus fan myself and honestly I havn't heard the new albumn. I'm not going out of my way to hear it though, a close friend who is/was a big Exodus fan bought it and was bitterly disapointed at the liberal propoganda in it.

Hmm.. a new Album I'd recomend? Damage Plan - definately. No doubt this is old school metal.

I am looking forward to Ozzfest this Sept in FL, it'll be my first. This year is a no-brainer with almost the entire ticket being fantastic! Priest with Halford? SLAYER? Sabbath? Slipknot? All at the same show?!?  Are you kidding me? I can't wait, so much so I am almost obsessing on it :-o  :-o

Yeah, the Exodus CD does have some 'propaganda' I suppose.  Good thing I don't listen to music for the lyrics  Anyhow Red, if you can get past some of the lyrics, it really is a great thrash CD, in the old style.

I heard the Damageplan CD, I wasn't really that impressed.  If were talking of new projects from old Pantera members, I'd say Superjoint Ritual is a better listen.  Also the first Down CD was very good.

I have to agree with you guys on the nu-metal thing.

Check  this out.

I say we give him $20 and tell him to keep fighting the good fight   :-D

Nice work!

[although I do think the lady in Evanescence has a great voice]

These people don't have a clue what metal is!

Really? Did you listen to the whole thing? I liked it alot, and thought the CD got better as it went along. The singer is a big change from Phil, but dimebag can still whail.

I pretty much like what I've heard of SuperJointRitual, except that one 'Destruction of a Person'. Oh god is that bad, pathetic even.

Yes it is!

You want some good off the beaten track metal? You may or may not have heard of these. Nail Bomb is good for a change, sort of Heavy Industrial Metal. Of course there is Brujeria, the Mexican Gods of metal!

Nailbomb absolutely rock!

I used to have a bag with their logo painted on it. But I stopped using it around 1998, as a couple of nailbombs went off in London, and I thought it'd be in poor taste.

It's Max Cavalera and Alex Newport from Fudge Tunnel, with some parts played by Igor Cavalera and Andreas Kisser.
They also released a live album - "Proud to commit commercial suicide"

I have the live Nailbomb record, there are a couple of studio tracks on the end too. It's pleasingly intense, some of the songs sort of remind me of the Ratos De Porao cover Sepultura did in terms of the approach.

I love the irony of releasing (the biggest cash-in of all cash-ins) a live album and giving it that name though. Plus it's hardly commercial suicide to kill off a side project when you're in the greatest metal band on the planet at the time. Heh. ;-)

Still, it pees all over Soulfly, that's for sure. It's nice to hear stuff from Max before he changed his entire political schtick and decided he'd make bad Christian music. In my mid-teens he was my hero. Such a disappointment. :-(

hmm, I shall seek out this "Nailbomb" you speak of.

Also, another impressive band that is fairly new:  Mudvayne.  There newest record is pretty sterile, but LD 50 is blunt, agressive metal the way it should be.  Their song "Internal Primates Forever" for the most part restored my faith in today's youth.

re: Mudvayne

I like them too, though I actually like their newest album better than LD50.
