« on: January 30, 2003, 05:03:05 PM »
Hello, someone mentioned in another post that you can put a 3.5" HD in an A1200...

How can this be done?? I have spare 3.5 inchers waiting to be used right now! :)

Oops! It was me that said that!

It's my thinking that all you really need is a different cables to hook it up - though I wouldn't get too excited as I think I read somewhere that not all 3.5inch drives will work.

I'm sure someone else will know the real answer though!!

Easy. Take off the RF shield which covers the motherboard and put the hard drive over it, then close the Amiga. You should also put something between the drive and the mobo to prevent short circuits. I know that slim type drives fit nicely inside the case (when I bought my secondhand A1200 it had such type of drive inside). I'm not too sure about normal height ones, though. Anyway, I prefer to keep my hard disk out of the case, on my computer's desk.

BTW, you'll need a 2.5->3.5 ide cable for this.

yes you can fit a 3.5" drive in a amiga 1200
as i have done it you were once able to get
a kit from eyetech you need 2.5"  40 pin Amiga
motherboard to the 3.5" 44 pin i think i used ide fix
but you still need the cable powercomputing
do a nice little bufferd interface which fits
neatly into the a1200 iam not shure but i think
you will not need the cable part of the kit was
bit of plastic for glueing to the bottem of the hard
drive to stop it shorting on the amiga metal
casing and power supply adapter
GOOD LUCK  :-D  :-D  :-D
