It's-a meeee!
« on: July 24, 2004, 08:45:40 PM »
Well I've been posting a bit but I haven't made any effort to introduce myself, really :-)  So here I go!

I'm Failure.  Most people think that name denotes high self-esteem, but that's where you're wrong!  It's the name of a band I really liked before they uh...failed.  Before that, we're talking a long time ago, I was Commodore Demon or just CD.

I used a C=64 from 1986 to 1994 and I pretty much blame that thing for where I am today:  IT.  In the 90's I started to want to upgrade, but not being old enough to have a job and Amigas being so expensive...this upgrade didn't take place until 1994 when I *was* old enough to have a job.  So I worked all summer.  I placed an order for an A1200 with 8MB, and a 400MB HD from a Canadian company willing to ship to an APO address (stationed in Saudi Arabia at the time).  I forget the name, but they accidentally shipped the machine reserved for me to someone else.  A couple weeks later, Commodore went bankrupt.  Six months(!) later of waiting for backorder, I canceled my order and bought a Pentium 66 :-/

Fast forward to today.  I recently obtained a 3000UX from a fellow A.org member (hi Jamie!), so I went on eBay and bought another A3000 because it was cheaper than a Catweasel.  Then I decided that now was the time to fulfill my dream of having a souped up Amiga.  So I bought a CSPPC and two NICs (which aren't here yet).

So that's about it.  Basically I play with AMIX the most, since that's an environment I'm familiar with.  I am getting used to AmigaOS again.  I'm a Linux SE at my job, so naturally I am very interested in Linux on the Amiga as well.

Nice to meet you all, having a good time so far :-)

That's the beauty of the Amiga (and a handfull of other good retro stuff). People might leave but they don't forget. I myself got both an A1200 and A4000 before I got my first PC. However I sold off everything but my A1200 a couple of years ago to pay for other more important stuff (yes it exists). The A1200 was stuck away in the clauset for about two year and almost forgotten but then someone told me about a lokal Amiga club and I went and got hooked again.

So welcome back. :)

Failure : while you are returning to your big love Amiga, don´t forget that the C64 scene is still active, not as much as it used to be, but nevertheless the coding skills are getting better and better !! Check this out in case you didn´t know :

Retro Replay
+
an ethernet module for that Retro Replay

both begin sold in the USA by a known person on this forum  :-)

Erm, on the C64 you can buy new commercial games and hardware (harddisk interface, super CPU, and apparently there's a new SID being developed).

Check here.
