Serious Question for Amiga Newbie
« on: July 22, 2004, 07:17:36 PM »
I'm really interested in the AmigaONE's and the Amiga OS4 but, I can't seem to get my hands on either of those. Either the store is out of the U.S. or it doesn't have an online shopping tool. Also, the OS4, I have no damn clue where to get it. If anyone could help me out with a nice online store that would be helpful.

I have another question.. Should I even bother? I hear all this info about MorphOS and Pegesus (spelling?), maybe I should go with one of those. I guess this is an opinion question...

How about Linux? heh.

Oh yeah, anywhere with the nice Amiga Boing Ball Chasis would be nice, I love the look (I think I saw it on a configuration called the "Santa Clara" but alas I cannot find that site anymore)

Sorry if my newbie-ness is reeking the board, but I'm really interested in the Amiga community. Please don't steer me away from this. ^^

All i can say is be prepared to be bombared by fans of both sides trying to get you to buy theyre choice =) (the AmigaOne and the Pegasos) personaly i have a Pegasos running MorphOS wich im very happy with :)! you could always get WinUAE for you PC and try it out too see if you like the OS? you will also need to buy AmigaOS + get it up and working wich could be more work then its worth for a newbie :)  so i would suggest to download AROS from www.aros.org boot the CD and try it out! it will give you a litle idea about AmigaOS + MorphOS! AROS isnt as advanced as these 2 but it will give you an idea.

Wow, if you're that much in doubt about what to buy, and don't really know anything about it, follow 4play's advice and try out AROS or UAE (amiga forever).

It's a lot of money to put down for an amigaOne or Pegasos computer, especially if you are not really sure what they're about.

Perhaps you could find a usergroup or something to that effect near you, so you would be able to see the computers and their operating systems in person.

Sincerely,

-Kenneth Straarup.

one guys A1 review

I don't know where you live, but here is one amiga club in NY

maybe, you can find one near you (oh, that's been said   )
seriously, it's only when you put your hands on an A1 and peg that you can make a judgement. i have touched both and they are both very cool! they feel like amiga - but faster!

which one you want depends on what you like and need. good luck!

AROS is a great idea and i use WinUAE all the time, so we can have various amigas all at once!
the no CARB diet- no Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld or Bush.
