workbench 3.1 or 1.3?
« on: July 19, 2004, 07:35:14 AM »
I have an a 2000 with workbench 3.1 and rom.
Am having trouble with a lot of games running.Mostly old games ,would I be better off changing to 1.3 workbench and roms as alot of them have hardrive installations available. But I only get a blank screen when I try to run them under the 3.1 system?

It would be better if you try a software kickstart 1.3 first like ReloKick or something.
It works for my A1200 with 3.1 roms!

Hi nahoo7,

If you mainly want to use your Amiga 2000 computer for playing vintage games, then yes, remove the KS 3.1 ROM and replace it with a KS 1.3 ROM.  As you know the vintage Amiga games are better then the newer ones.  You can also use a Kickstart ROM Switcher Board.  This way you can have both KS 1.3 and 3.1 plugged in.  This is how I have it set up on my Amiga 2500.  I have KS 1.3, 2.04, and 3.1 plugged in.   :-D
My favorite TV shows:  Star Trek Voyager, Forever Knight, Stargate SG1, Married with Children, As Time Goes By, Mr. Bean, Smallville, The Six Million Dollar Man, and Xena

I'd sugest you start with trying to get hold of a kickstartswich... I bought a new one at AmiGBG04 for like 8$ and I'm sure you'll be able to dig up one localy for about the same (at least secondhand).

If you can't find one then try out ReloKick... it's realy simple... if you want to run an old game simply boot up with relokick and after a few seconds it'll reboot you machine into 1.3 (I've put ReloKick on my harddrive and have an if statemen in my startupsequence together with a "mousepress program" that run it automaticly at boot if I hold down left mousebutton).

@nahoo7

nahoo, do you have a Harddrive in your A2000?

Well the solution is very simple to get old games to work...........and not only that, but to get them all installed on your HD!

The Answer?

 Get WHDLoad !!!!!!   period!
 and get JST also.

These programs are dreams come true.  I have about 160 games on my Amiga Hard drive.and that includes very old ones that work only with 1.3.
I have Shadow of the beast 1, 2 and 3, I have Sword of Sodan, Alien Syndrome (worked with 1.2 only and now works fine with 3.1) Arkanoid 2, Dynablaster, Pacmania, F/A 18 Interceptor, ELF, The Chaos Engine 1, and 2, Turrican 1, 2 and 3, Chase HQ 1, and 2, Alien Breed SE,, Pinball Fantasies and Pinball Dreams...................................................................and tons more.

Make your life simple and get WHDLoad. You don't need to register it, but will have to eventually, and I recommend it so that you wont get the splash window.

Do yourself a favor and get WHDLoad. it basically lets you install hundreds or thousands of Games that were not meant to be Installed on HD, and also makes them compatible with WB 3.1 and AGA amigas.

You only need the ROM switcher if you are going to be booting games from floppy............and boy is that annoying and slow. I like walking around with my Amiga 600 or CD32/SX32, knowing that I have all or most of my Floppy games installed in that little tiny Harddrive in my system. Instead of carryin 5 or 10 games around in floppy cases, I can simply take my A600 to a friends house knowing that I have not 10 games nor 20, but  160, or 200 or 300 games in my HD ready to be executed by a simple pulldown menu (ToolsDaemon and MagicMenu) and have access to a huge library of Games.  Fun Fun Fun.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Hi leirbag28,

In most cases WHDLoad will only work if you have the ORIGINAL game disks.  It will not install "cracked", "pirated", or "menu-disk" games.  Where did you get your 200 to 300 original game disks?

But, now I am buying the originals.   :-D

I am looking for the following Amiga Games, new in box:

Phantasie III
Barbarian II (Platform Game)
SideWinder (Boxed Version)
Ultima V and VI
Silkworm (Boxed Version)
Technocop
Shadow of the Beast 1 and 2

Yes I do.

Bit late to buy them now, most of the software houses from the amiga days dont exist any more.
