A600 Online through a PC Ethernet?
« on: July 18, 2004, 04:01:42 PM »

 Hello all.   I have an A600 with a PCMCIA ethernet card that I am trying to connect online to through the PC's Ethernet port.  The PC is online Wirelessly, and is running Windows XP on a Pentium4 1.6 Ghz.

 How do I get my A600 to go online by connecting to the PC's free ethernt port?

How is the PC connected to internet? ADSL or dial up Modem?
Your A600 still needs a TCP/IP stack installed such as Miami Deluxe - http://www.nordicglobal.com/md.html

With WB 2, you can use a text based browser and email but thats it. For proper web browsing you need KS/WB 3.1

Miami is a good first step. If I recall, you've got a nicely upgraded A600, so MiamiDX would be better - I think it's more suited for ethernet operations.

As far as actual configuration goes, however, I'm not sure if I can help you. It's been many years since I connected to the internet that way, but I suspect there are a few settings you'll need to adjust in Windows' network Prefs. And I'm relatively certain Miami should be configured for a static IP address.

I would strongly suggest getting a router. If you've got any other computers you want to get online, it will make your life so much easier.

@leirbag28:

Here is a guide which explains how to get the connection between the amiga and the pc going using the Genesis TCP/IP stack and a PCMCIA-card.

If you have Workbench 3.9, Genesis is bundled with it.

Good luck!

@patrik

 Thanks, nice little guide...............although thats not what I was looking for but is helpfull anyway :-)

@everybody
 I already know how to get online and been doing it for years. I have Miami and I have Genesis, I have an 030 in my 600 and I have cnet.device and PCMCIA ethernet card, and my PC is online wirelessly using Broadband Cable. I have gone online with this using my Amiga before...............................But...................What I want is this:  I live in the Attic and cant get online with my Amiga because I dont have a wireless card..which means I have to throw down a cable long enough to reach downstairs.........but I dont want to do that..............what I want is to be able to go online and use iBrowse AmigAIM, Voyager, YAM, AmIRC etc, using the PC as an internet Dongle if you will. Since My PC is online wirelessly, the ethernet port is free for me to plug in my A600 and use it as a gateway to go online..I heard this was possible, and this is what I want to do...............And so

............ I ask......How do you do this?

Good evening!

The windows XP has an "share internet" in the networks properties. (This, if you have a USB dongle, called Local Network Connection 2 and your ethernet is L. N. C. 1, you can - under properties share this. That is in the pro edition, I don't know about home)

When you do this, you can connect the amiga trough the eternet with a crossed cable, and the PC will act as a DHCP server, and give you a IP adress, the PC will have a static IP adress, and route the TCP/ip traffic to the amiga.

Does this help you?

Give me a word if it works, and any messages you get of error!

Just install a http proxy on the PC. A super quick and easy proxy to use is this one: Analog X HTTP Proxy

Then simply point Miami / Genesis / AmiTCP to your PC's IP and you should be able to access the Internet

@kevh100

 I have downloaded the Analog X proy thing...........still cant get online.........I had to use a reverse  crossed ethernet cable as a regular one did not work. I am using Miami, not MiamiDX

 I went and connected directly to the hub and I was able to connect, but only with MAC filters disabled............how do I find my MAC address on the Amiga.I was told I need to know that to be able to connect.

Right now for some reason my A600 does not want to connect through the PC ethernet port. The link isnt even active for some reason...it was before
