Opera port on Amiga
« on: July 17, 2004, 02:20:05 AM »
Greetings,

I've notice a web browser in my mobile called 'Orepa'. Small but powerful webbrowser. Sure can handle JAVA in a lot of ways! :-)

I wish they port opera on the Amiga!

Regards,

Gizz

yeah, I must confess that I'm a Mozilla/Fire-bird-fox devotee. Never really got on with Opera - but perhaps I should have another look sometime...
I like Amigas

Ahem, that'll be Windows (including the Java Runtime Engine), Linux, and Windows (without Java) then.
Cheers,

Maybe one day if the AmiZilla bounty gets high enough they can pay for an Opera port with it.

Opera (From norway actually :-D ) was suposed to be ported to amiga, but they changed their mind becouse it was a lot of work and so small userbase.

When OS4 is released pherhaps they wil be interested again.

Let's hope they get a working Java-implementation soon, then! :-)

There would be less than a 1/20th of OS4 users compared to original Amiga users in 1999 when Opera first turned down an Amiga port, what makes you think they'd be interested in OS4 now?

IMO Amiga browsers are not that bad. Sure if we had Opera we could see CSS pages properly but at least you can see the information there nevertheless.

Opera port would not help much. Bigger platforms are still ahead (flash, JVM, ActiveX, etc etc etc).

Yeah because our user base has gotten so much bigger since '98...

I hope there is an old amiga developer in house at Opera.
Because Opera is "very easy" to port. They released 7.53 at the same time for Win, Linux, Mac, FreeBSD and Solaris.
